    The Vancouver Prostate Centre (VPC) has an exceptional opportunity available for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Somasekharan Lab to join our research team.

    As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.

    Somasekharan Lab

    The Somasekharan laboratory conducts cutting-edge interdisciplinary research to understand the role of RNA regulatory networks in health and disease. The applicant for this position should be passionate about studying RNA biology and biomolecular condensates. The successful candidate will be involved in studying the mechanism of regulation of mRNA translation in prostate cancer. To learn more about Dr Somasekharan and his research, visit .

    Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in RNA biology.
  • Assist in preparing manuscripts and research proposals.
  • Liaise with collaborators and present research findings in international conferences.
  • Train undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Qualifications and Requirements

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or similar.
  • Experience in cell culture, immunofluorescence microscopy, live cell imaging, in-situ hybridization, mass spectrometry, purification of recombinant proteins using prokaryotic expression system, isolation polysome mRNA, electrophoretic mobility shift assay, qRT-PCR, and co-immunoprecipitation, as evidenced by first author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Knowledgeable in statistics, RNA sequence and proteomics data analysis, and database management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Friendly, organized, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Salary

    The salary range for this Postdoctoral Fellowship is $50,000 to $60,000 per annum. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
