The Opportunity
The Wellness Counsellor works with the project team to support youth (ages in the North End who are attached to Employment Support and Income Assistance or at risk of attachment to ESIA without employment interventions.

The Wellness Counsellor will be responsible for supporting clients in the program with mental health and wellness through meetings, workshops and group activities, assessment, referrals, and taking appropriate actions accordingly.

This position reports the Manager of the YMCA. The program will be delivered and implemented using a diverse, inclusionary approach, and Africentric values and principles.


Responsibilities

  • Understands and works in accordance with policies, procedures, and standards as set by the YMCA and ONE
  • Administer and interpret assessment tools based on (Skills, Interest, Values, Ability and Academics)
  • Complete client intake and needs assessments to codevelop individualized program paths with participants
  • Review referrals to determine appropriate service for the client (i.e. oneonone assessment or testing in a group setting)
  • Working from a framework of clinical counselling principals and theory administer and interpret psychometric assessments utilizing counselling processes, tools and resources)
  • Provide interventions and activities that promote mental health and wellness using a therapeutic process which enables the individual to make informed, healthy work/ life decisions
  • Accurately document interactions and interventions in database (LAMPSS)
  • Provide ongoing follow up to ensure clients have the appropriate resources and supports to achieving expected outcomes
  • Make appropriate referrals for specialized services to partnering organizations and community referral agencies and services
  • Submit monthly statistical reports that are congruent with client database.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Counselling or related field with a minimum of 2 years related experience
  • Ability to administer and interpret level B Psychometric Assessment
  • Strong interest in and experience working in neighborhoodbased projects
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in working and communicating with a diverse population
  • Knowledge and experience providing services with Africentric principles and values
  • Ability to problemsolve by identifying issues, gathering, and processing relevant information, and providing solutions
  • A nonjudgmental and positive attitude
  • Selfmotivated, organized, detail oriented, and deadline driven
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Zoom, Teams and online communication tools
