OVERVIEW:

Under the direction of both the Program Development Co-Ordinator for Auxiliary Programs and the HSDC Director, HSDC Instructors are responsible for planning and delivering the daily activities of the Hilltop Summer Discovery Program.

This position requires broad knowledge of camp and outdoor education activities, excellent organizational, communication and problem-solving skills along with flexibility and the ability to engage all types of learners.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work closely with the HSDC Director to develop, prepare, coordinate and implement program activities
Design inquiry projects aligned to weekly themes for assigned age groups
Actively supervise campers, at all times
Ensure that the health and safety of all campers is paramount
Lead sessions as scheduled

BASIC DUTIES:

Design and lead projects, games and activities as scheduled
Interact with parents at dropoff and pick up
Track attendance and screening of campers
Manage behaviour within the camp group
Supervise lunch groups
Report incidents as needed
Coordinate resource management and campus cleanup

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:

Previous camp leadership experience and a strong knowledge of child development and needs
Strong leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills, including close attention to detail
Program delivery skills
Experience in a leadership capacity
Excellent problemsolving skills
University education, Bachelor of Education preferred (or in progress)
