    Description

    Duties:

    The Faculty of Education invites applications for a regular ongoing faculty position to instruct in our undergraduate Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Kinesiology programs. The ideal candidate would have extensive expertise (from both education and experience) in the area of research and practice within physical and health education (elementary and secondary levels as applicable to Kindergarten to Grade 12 teaching). The ability to teach activity-based classes in the Kinesiology program would be an asset.

    Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

    Required Qualifications:

    A doctorate in a relevant area such as Curriculum and Pedagogy (focus in Physical and Health Education), or Teacher Education from an appropriately accredited institution. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills along with willingness and ability to function in a team setting.
  • Responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds.
  • Commitment to the development of students as teachers.
  • Significant experience in K-12 settings with curriculum implementation and core competencies, including Indigenous principles of teaching and learning.
  • Eligibility for BC Teaching Certificate or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and research.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated effective teaching of adult learners in the post-secondary setting.
  • Familiarity with the Vancouver Island University Teacher Education and Kinesiology programs.
  • Familiarity with current BC Ministry of Education initiatives in areas such as curriculum, assessment and reporting, and relevant experience implementing change in K-12 learning contexts.
  • Additional teaching area, or area of expertise within teacher education.
