Core services include a 35-bed emergency shelter, 24/7 access to counsellors through text, live chat and telephone crisis lines, employment initiatives to help survivors become economically self-sufficient, and anti-violence intervention and prevention counselling that Redwood caseworkers bring directly to survivors living in neighbourhoods all over the GTA.

The Redwood is currently seeking a
commercially licensed driver with an "F" class driver's license for our
Mobile Healing Centre, as part of the Mobile Services and Special Projects team.


Job Summary


The Mobile Healing Centre Driver (MHCD) will be responsible for driving our Mobile Healing Vehicle from its storage/parking place to service sites.

The MHCD will prepare and set up the vehicle to be ready for services.

The MHCD will stay on-site during mobile services and support the team in quality control and safety of the vehicle as well as movement of food and items as needed.

The MHCD will act as part of The Redwood's Special Projects team and will support the team in providing high quality care for clients and staff.

The MHCD must maintain an active Ontario Driver's License.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drives the mobile services vehicle (dimensions 31' L x 12' H) from place of storage/parking to service areas, complying with all motor vehicle codes and regulations.
  • Prepares the vehicle for services as well as take down at end of shift.
  • Fuels vehicle and maintains accurate record of use of fuel and mileage of vehicle.
  • Notes any maintenance issues for the vehicle and reports them to the Project Coordinator.
  • Maintains daily log of vehicle mileage and compressor hours.
  • Completes driver vehicle evaluation form.
  • Maintains log of routine inspections of vehicle (daily, weekly and monthly).
  • Helps maintain cleanliness of the vehicle as directed, including interior and exterior.
  • Turns on and off all necessary equipment at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Works with the Special Projects team to secure parking permits for the mobile vehicle as appropriate.
  • Must be able to use Google maps/Waze to navigate routes and locations in the GTA.
  • Engage and manage clients and staff seeking mobile services.
  • Deescalate clients or potentially volatile situations.
  • Attending appropriate safety training(s).
  • Ensuring a safe driving environment for clients and staff.
  • Liase with police or other public safety providers as needed.
  • Respond appropriately to women and families in a timely and courteous manner.

General

  • Adheres to all policies, procedures, guidelines, routines, and requirements of The Redwood.
  • Punctually attends work and meetings.
  • Fully participates by sharing information and perspectives.
  • Maintains cooperative work relationships and participates in the general operation of the organization.
  • May be assigned other responsibilities, within reason, as determined by the Executive Director.
  • Depending upon the requirements of The Redwood, prioritizing the responsibilities outlined may be required. Priorities will be determined through consultation with the Executive Director.
  • Contributes to team building at The Redwood by attending and participating in meetings/events.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent distractions or interruptions.
  • Works out of van base, with constant travelling and mobility.
  • Governed by concurrent and dynamic deadlines, despite conflicting priorities and frequent interruptions.
  • Exposure to coworkers, clients and community members; may occasionally handle situations with upset or irate people.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to drive to various sites in all types of weather.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of heavy commercial vehicle experience with class "F" license or higher.
  • Commitment to, and experience with, mobile or streetbased services.
  • Commitment to providing nonjudgmental quality support to the Ontario Community Mobile Project team.
  • Experience working with diverse populations including those suffering from oppression, violence and abuse.
  • Confidentiality, professionalism, punctuality, flexibility and reliability are imperative.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Integrity to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Excellent organizational and problemsolving skills and ability to multitask and juggle multiple priorities.
  • Outstanding ability to followthrough with assigned tasks.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of interdisciplinary team and independently assume responsibility.
  • Knowledge of another language is advantageous,
