Position & location: part-time, temporary Early Childhood Assistant at Cameron Street YMCA Before & After School Program in Collingwood

The opportunity: Contribute to building vibrant and connected communities by creating nurturing environments for children.

In this role, you will:

• Offer personal care to children, including toileting/diaper changing, first aid, medication administration, dietary monitoring, allergies & medical conditions oversight
• Engage actively with children ensuring their safety and supervision in group settings of up to 15 children independently
• Design and execute play-based learning following YMCA Curriculum guidelines
• Maintain positive and professional communication with families, staff, and volunteers consistently
• Create an inclusive environment catering to the needs of all children, including those with unique behaviors and additional requirements
• Exhibit appropriate behaviors in alignment with our Mission, Vision, and Values
• Follow work schedule to maintain program ratios and inform supervisor promptly about unexpected scheduling changes
• Show flexibility with routines and schedules
• Perform other assigned duties

For this role, you bring:

• Minimum age of 18 years
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification OR completion of certification within the initial 90 days of employment
• Successful completion of Vulnerable Sector Screening within 6 months from start date
• Updated immunizations or equivalent as per local public health and Child Care Early Years Act regulations
• Availability: Monday to Friday, 25 hours weekly split-shifts, about 7:00-9:00 am & 3:15-5:15 pm
• Passion for working with children and delivering quality play-based learning experiences
• Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with families, staff, and volunteers
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Capability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), and engage in physical activities
• Ability to work outdoors for a minimum of 2 hours daily throughout the year, under all weather conditions
