Reporting to the Manager, Crew Management, the Officer, Crew Management Center is responsible for all calling and related operational requirements expected of Locomotive Engineers.

This includes adherence to RAC work rest rules, managing daily vacancies, contingency planning and re-crewing engineers enroute due to operational issues.

Using the SCAT system, the Crew Controller also manages the administration aspect of locomotive engineers related to:
Work schedules, payment, vacation planning, mandatory hours and absenteeism tracking.


Responsibilities:


  • Manage and fill daily vacancies for Locomotive engineers (includes operational issues as well as recrewing due to delayed or late trains);
  • Manage temporary vacancies throughout system;
  • Produce various reports for hours tracking and cost management. (Double out report, Max hours report, O+A Report, Absenteeism report etc.);
  • Administratively manage personal files of Locomotive Engineers in SCAT (pay, personal info, work position, seniority and mandatory hours tracking);
  • Create and verify daily crewing and call sheets;
  • Print and verify Spareboard floating days off, Spareboard positions and book days off in SCAT;
  • Manage and verify annual vacation;
  • Manage on duty hours and payment of Locomotive engineers (Call and tie up);
  • Manage vacancies and staffing changes in CMC outlook inbox and update CMC calendar;
  • Manage seniority moves and displacements in system and advise affected engineers;
  • Manage emergency lists as required.

Requirements:

  • College diploma in Transportation or related field or a combination of equivalent training and pertinent experience;
  • Five years of experience in Operations within the Transportation industry;
  • Knowledge in system train operations and system geography (an asset);
  • Flexible to work on various shifts (days, nights and weekends).

Competencies:

  • Very good written and verbal communications skills in both official languages;
  • Must be technically savvy and capable of quickly learning/using a wide variety of technology systems and able to navigate complex computer systems;
  • Proficient in learning new technologies and at ease with Microsoft suite;
  • Excellent organizational and planning abilities;
  • Sound judgment and ability to make quality decisions under severe time constraints;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to adapt in a constantly changing environment;
  • Solid problemsolving skills;
  • Team player capable of building harmonious relationships with internal and external partners;
  • Knowledge of VIA's internal resources/structure and where to obtain specific information (an asset).
