    Overview:

Crosslinx Transit Solutions (CTS) is a consortium comprised of EllisDon, SNC-Lavalin, Aecon and ACS - Dragados. CTS has been selected by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario to deliver the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit Project and is seeking highly qualified, experienced personnel to join the team of this complex P3 design and construction project.
Reporting to the Manager of the respective Training Section, this position is primarily responsible for the delivery and evaluation of assigned training programs to train, educate and/or certify ECLRT employees, contractors, consultants, etc., in various aspects of Yard, Vehicle and Maintenance operations (i.e. procedures, processes, safety protocol, maintenance, etc.).Works with Managers and Curriculum Development Specialist when assigned to participate in the development of new training programs and/or the review, update and revision of existing training programs.


Responsibilities:


  • Conducts classroom and practical instruction:
  • ensuring that all training materials, supplies, equipment and locations are arranged and prepared in advance; reviewing all the training materials of a particular program prior to the delivery of class; adjusting schedules, making contingency plans etc. as required; communicating with other Departments as necessary;
- staying current on legislation, regulations, rules, procedures, work methods, equipment in a changing technological environment, task listings, lesson plans, work methods, legal requirements and operational procedures which may affect assigned training programs;
- assessing employee, external contractor and pre-employee hiring qualifications and ensuring that students have the necessary pre-requisite documentation;
- using appropriate training techniques for adult education in practical and classroom settings (e.g. lectures, demonstrations, simulations, use of mock ups, etc.);
- monitoring and reporting on student attendance, evaluating student performance in training sessions through practical assessments and the administration of written / practical tests in accordance with department Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's);
- recommending discontinuation of training where student qualifications or performance does not meet standards;
- certifying/qualifying staff, supervisory in specific aspects of their job functions upon successful completion of the appropriate training programs;
- ensuring the safety of students in training environments that may include exposure to power sources and various work site hazards such as vehicular traffic, moving trains or equipment, electrical, tripping hazards, etc., during training, orientation and testing, or practical evaluations;
- adjusting training techniques for individuals with special needs e.g. limited literacy, language skills, learning disabilities etc. prior to testing;
- maintaining class discipline and promoting a positive, safe and harassment free learning environment and taking corrective appropriate action as necessary.

May be necessary to assist in the testing of new equipment and changing shifts and off days as required

  • Selected Instructors may be assigned to participate in the development of new training programs and/or review, update or revise existing training programs

This involves:
- developing proficiency in new and changing technologies and developing, updating or revising competency profiles, task listings, lesson plans, workbooks, manuals, job aids and a variety of training aids and materials;
- conducting program evaluations and making recommendations for improvements to training programs.

  • Other duties may include:
  • preparing and presenting a variety of reports and recommendations related to area of responsibility;
- operating vehicles (non-revenue) and/or uses a wide range of equipment, tools, meters, gauges, above basic competency standards, etc. in the performance of duties as required;
- assisting in the training and ensuring the safety of representatives from outside agencies such as police, fire, and military anti-terrorist teams;
- taking appropriate action and informing management regarding potentially unsafe or inappropriate practices or situations;
- participating in and providing input into pre-acceptance procedures of new vehicles, equipment, facilities, etc.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Requires sound knowledge of applicable legislation (e.g. MTO, Human Rights, OH&S Act etc.) regulations, policies and practices, and union agreements.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and explain complex concepts, technical information and/or operating/maintenance procedures.
