Highlights of the job

We are hiring a Full Time Temporary Accounting Administrator for up to 18 months working out of Collingwood, Ontario.


In the Administrator Accounting role you will be providing support to the Management and Finance department by compiling financial reconciliations and reports, ensuring accuracy of various accounts, and journal entries and will also include the administration of the pension and benefit plans for employees and retirees.

What you'd be responsible for


As an Administrator Accounting you are accountable to the Manager, Commercial Services and will operate within the context and prescribed limits established.

Key accountabilities in the role are (but not limited to) the following:


  • Identifying and suggesting areas of improvement regarding business processes for Financial Services with an effort to improve the quality and timeliness of financial information.
  • Providing procedural and financial data to internal and external auditors in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely monthly and yearend close, ensuring all finance related assignments and documents are approved and submitted by the necessary corporate deadlines.
  • Preparing monthly general ledger reconciliations such as the bank account and various other accounts as assigned and investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Preparing journal entries for capitalization/disposal, depreciation, unbilled revenue and various other routine and nonroutine project and general ledger reconciliation adjustments as needed.
  • Handling and maintaining highly confidential/sensitive information, including financial and personnel records.
  • Providing payroll administrative support between the Edmonton payroll department and the Collingwood office, including time entry training, inputting special pays and verifying authorizations.
  • Administering OMERS, MEARIE and Benefits plans, including payroll updates, processing and reconciling taxable benefit and employee deductions, monthly and yearend reporting.
  • Adhering to pension and benefit plan policies and procedures. Updating and creating internal pension and benefit policies with direction from management.
  • Processing employee retirements and following up with retirees regarding plan changes.
  • Providing backup support to other Departments, as assigned and/or necessary departmental or corporate objectives.
What's required to be successful

You will have the following qualifications, experience and behaviours:

  • Completion of a two (2) year Business Administration Accounting diploma from a recognized post-secondary educational institute.
  • Two (2) or more years of relevant experience in financial reporting and variance analysis capacity.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of using Microsoft Excel.
  • Proven thorough working knowledge of general accounting principles.
  • Ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines, and exercise appropriate discretion in the recognition of highly confidential/sensitive information.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written, ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment in order to acquire, process and disseminate information.
  • Highly developed ability to maintain a professional and positive attitude combined with the proven ability to work professionally both in a team environment and as an individual to achieve all goals.
  • Demonstrated history of positive punctuality, attendance and performance.
