Sistering is a multi-service agency for at-risk, socially isolated women and trans people in Toronto who are homeless or precariously housed.
Our harm reduction philosophy is a core element of all the work we do. We operate on a trauma-informed and relationship-based model.

Our programs include a low-barrier 24/7 Drop In, Housing and Case Support, Harm Reduction, Peer Outreach, on-site Medical Clinic and Spun Studio social enterprise.

During COVID our 24/7 Drop In runs as one of the City Respite Centres, providing essential services.

***: The Employment Worker's role is to assist Sistering's Social Enterprise's participant. They will engage, inform and educate participants on gaining valuable employment. The incumbent will assist in creating and facilitating groups which focus on resume building, job skills and improving interview techniques.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Educating participants on effective resume writing skills and formats
Assisting participants in writing resumes that highlight previous life and work experiences
Outlining potential job opportunities and improving current job skills
Informing participants on how to search for job opportunities using a variety of methods (online, agencies, employment centers etc.)
Facilitate mock interviews to improve confidence and technique
Advise participants on employment requirements and terms and conditions of employment

Other duties as assigned

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to multitask, work in a fast paced, sometimes unpredictable environment, identify key priorities and effectively see things to completion.
Excellent communication skills both oral and written
Additional languages besides English an asset
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other online tools.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position works in the office and community. Sistering is a 24/7 operation, fast paced, intense environment. There may be the risk of exposure to potentially unpredictable behaviours and situations. Sistering is a pet friendly facility and as such, employees may be in the proximity of animals.
