What you'll do
Government Relations
- Assist in the development of the annual government relations and industry strategy focused that align with the business goals of the organization and lead (be accountable) for the strategies implementation.
- Monitor, analyze and action legislation that impacts Equifax Canada.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to learn the business and collaborate on government relations and industry strategy.
- Liaise with government officials, political actors and other relevant stakeholders (e.g. industry stakeholders) to exchange information, prepare deliverables, coordinate meetings.
- Responsible for lobbying compliance for the organization and ensuring that all government relations work is, at all times nonpartisan.
- Research, review and draft materials (including correspondence and formal public commentary) in respect of proposed laws, regulation, guidelines etc.
- Socialize and support any internal policy development or work in response to new legislation.
- Meet regularly with Canadian leadership, as appropriate, to support, advise, obtain instructions and implement the organizations government relations, industry and advocacy initiatives.
- Work closely with the Sr. Compliance Officer, Consumer Advocacy to support the local compliance program from a government relations, industry and advocacy perspective.
- Support the marketing and communication team in the drafting and review of media and other communications, including presentations, interviews and speeches.
- Review and advise on risk and opportunity from a government relations, industry and advocacy perspective on the marketing and communication strategy and on key communication projects and initiatives.
What experience you need
- 35 years' related legal experience with an
- LLB or JD and called to the Ontario or Quebec bar in good standing.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Tact, diplomacy, ethics and sound judgment.
- Strong reading, writing, editing and legislative analysis skills.
- Adept relationship management skills and the ability to translate technical jargon to everyday conversations.
- Bilingual.
What could set you apart
- You have previously had an inhouse position in the financial services or credit reporting industry.
- Also called to the bar in any other Canadian or U.S. jurisdiction.
- Prior policy/government relations/advocacy work in a nonlegal setting.
