About the Opportunity:

We are looking for a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our Therapy Services Team.

Therapy services at the BC Centre for Ability include the Early Intervention Therapy program which provides physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology and social work services for over 1000 children and their families.

Services are provided in the child's natural environments, as well as through clinic and group opportunities, and focus on helping the child become successful in their daily routines and participate in home and community life.


A Day in the Life of a BC CFA SLP:


  • Assess verbal and nonverbal communication skill development and the oral motor skills required for drinking and eating
  • Provide support in the areas of language understanding and use, social communication, speech clarity, alternative or augmentative communication, fluency, preliteracy skills and oral motor skills involved in eating and drinking
  • Use a coaching approach with families and team members to educate and implement therapeutic programs based on family goals
  • Use Evidence Based Practice and Family Centered Practice to guide decision making when developing goals and therapeutic programs.
  • Maintain up to date records that meet agency and regulatory body requirements
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team and community partners.
  • Participate in staff meetings, case reviews, medical liaison meetings, and inservices

  • Undertake additional responsibilities as directed

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:


  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Experience working in pediatrics &/or in a communitybased program is an asset
  • Training in Motivational Interviewing or Brief Action Planning an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Practices in accordance with the International Classification of Function and Fwords of childhood development with a commitment to inclusive practice and family centered care
  • A basic understanding of feeding/swallowing difficulties and management is considered an asset
  • Proven collaboration, communication and consultation skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proven organization and time management skills are required
  • Ability to adapt to change and embrace new technology
  • Competency using a virtual platform, electronic client record system and word processing software

Working Conditions & Provisos:


  • Must be registered with CSHBC (includes Criminal Record Check)
  • Valid driver's license with reliable use of car for work with business insurance
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
