The Attorney General is the legal advisor to the government of British Columbia and is charged with ensuring that the administration of public affairs is carried out in accordance with the law.

The Ministry of Attorney General is structured to carry out this mandate under the direction of the Attorney General, and Legal Services Branch (LSB) supports the Ministry in fulfilling this mandate by serving as legal advisor to government in civil law matters.

LSB provides legal advice to government and ensures that legal risks associated with government operations are reduced. LSB's clients include all ministries of the government, Cabinet and certain public agencies.

The Litigation Group is one of five groups within the Legal Services Branch.

It is comprised of barristers, paralegals, and administrative professionals who conduct litigation and provide related advice on behalf of the Province.

The Litigation Group appears on behalf of the Province at all levels of court and before certain administrative tribunals and is responsible for all aspects of the preparation and conduct of mediations, trials, and other hearings.

It provides key advice to the Province relating to the settlement of disputes in accordance with statutory authorities.

The Paralegal position provides services within the Litigation Group on large, complex, sensitive, and high-profile cases, as well as in areas of high-volume litigation, which impact the delivery of Branch and Ministry objectives


These services include:

  • The management of case information including all elements of document management;
  • Legal research;
  • Drafting legal documents including affidavits, pleadings and bill of costs;
  • Managing witnesses, including experts;
  • Supporting legal counsel at all stages of litigation; and
  • Liaising with clients.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience
- a Bachelor of Law Degree may be considered as an equivalent to a paralegal certificate.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • experience working as a paralegal in a litigation environment;
- a minimum of 3 years of experience in a litigation environment;
- experience in high-volume and/or complex litigation;
- experience managing and coordinating document production and disclosure;
- experience in drafting pleadings;
- experience with the law of privilege and/or cabinet confidentiality;
- experience preparing petitions and materials before administrative tribunals;
- experience with the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules; and/or
- experience with Summation Pro or Forensic Toolkit (FTK).


About this Position:

This position is located in Victoria.

This position is excluded from union membership.

An eligibility list may be established for future permanent and/or temporary opportunities.
