Developmental Paediatrician_

  • Regular Part time
  • Full Time 35 days a week to 37.5 hour per week)
  • Expected start date July 1, 2023


Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer on matters relating to services and programs as well as administrative issues, and accountable to the Medical Director for professional matters and medical issues requiring final resolution.

The Developmental Paediatrician provides direct clinical care to Grandview clients consistent with standards of clinical excellence; ensures that medical services are delivered in a manner which enhances family centred care and are consistent with Grandview's mission, vision, values and policies; provides leadership, education, consultation and advocacy in children's rehabilitation services; maintains professional competence.


Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Providing direct clinical care to Grandview clients consistent with standards of clinical excellence through:

  • individual paediatric assessment and diagnosis for clients of Grandview including investigation, treatment, referral to appropriate resources, and documentation
- discussion and consultation with children/youth and family concerning diagnosis, plan of care and progress
- ensuring primary care providers and community paediatricians are involved in communication, encouraging their ongoing medical care to the client, in a spirit of collaboration
- advocating for the provision of needed services of clients
- providing leadership and support to the multidisciplinary team to ensure the development of a comprehensive plan of care and providing appropriate ongoing feedback to the team
- providing feedback via the Medical Director to the service navigation team regarding medical services
- completing routine documentation to obtain funding for client services and equipment, e.g. Assistive Devices Program forms, insurance forms;
Ensuring medical services are delivered in a manner to enhance family-centred care and are consistent with Grandview's mission, vision, values and policies through:

  • involving parents and caregivers in the understanding and setting of goals for their child's plan of care
- supporting Grandview policies related to the rights and responsibilities for families and clients
- developing protocols and best practices for various medical interventions, providing input for development of clinical protocols
- participating in case reviews and family conferences as required
- assisting the Medical Director in the supervision and oversight of visiting physicians and students - completing multi-step assessments in a timely fashion

The Developmental Paediatrician provides leadership, education, consultation and advocacy in children's rehabilitation services by:

  • advising and consulting with clinical staff in regards to questions and concerns about client issues
- planning, providing and evaluating educational sessions for staff, physicians, community agencies, the general public, clients and families
- advocating on behalf of children and youth in the community who would benefit from Grandview's services
- being a resource to general practitioners and community paediatricians
- liaising with other developmental pediatricians in the children's rehabilitation services field - maintaining required standards of professional competency
- participating in centre committees which include but are not limited to the Research Committee, Medication Management Committee, Ethics Committee, Journal Club, and the other leadership activities
- maintaining communication with all other staff members and sharing concerns with Medical Director:

  • ensuring clinical competence through studying new techniques and becoming proficient in their use
- maintaining professional affiliations and memberships in related associations and organizations


Investigation of all opportunities for pain and anxiety management will be required in this role, with a focus on advocacy.
