Weldco Heavy Industries (WHI) is a large steel fabrication and repair facility located in the Fort McKay Caribou Energy Park.

Strategically positioned in the heart of Alberta's Oil Sands, WHI is able to effectively meet the requirements for large steel repair, assembly and refurbishment in the industry.

We are looking for a Safety Coordinator to coordinate the Fort McKay Branch safety program. This role will
7 days on/7 days off, 12 hour days.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about coordinating the safety function for our group.

Reporting to the General Manger your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure legislation and Company compliance by providing effective safety support and guidance.
  • Develop branch safety policies and procedures for incorporation into operational policies.
  • Assist branch in the development of business/branchspecific safety procedures that ensure operation staff are aware, understand tactical compliance and program requirements.
  • Assist branch with the development /coordination of appropriate training programs necessary to ensure staff have the necessary knowledge to carry out their duties.
  • Provide input to the branch plans and directions and ensure an appropriate understanding of legislation requirements relating to the strategy or proposed implementation of new procedures or equipment.
  • Extensive interaction with all personnel to identify and correct unsafe conditions or work practices.
  • Accurately track and schedule equipment inspections
  • Ensure effective coordination of the JOHSC.
  • Ongoing completion of branch hazard assessments and inspections.
  • Lead or assist in workplace investigations.
  • Assist the Corporate Senior Safety Coordinator with the annual COR Safety Audit.
  • Coordinate and support injury management.

Qualifications include:


  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with staff and leadership.
  • Ability to present to large audiences in an engaging way.
  • Proficiency in various computer programs including the ability to enter data.
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety programs and policies.
  • A minimum of three years of work experience in a manufacturing environment, NCSO designation, related postsecondary education, and First Aid Certification are preferred.
  • An Indepth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations, WCB policies and procedures and general knowledge of the Personal Information Protection Act are required.
