Position Title:
Developmental Disability Instructor


Pay rate:
$19-$21/per hour based on experience and skill set.


Contract:1-year contract with strong chances of renewal based on performance


Benefits:

Position Summary

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Tasks:


  • Must be comfortable working with adults, more specifically adults with developmental disabilities and familiar with common adult education methodologies.
  • Plan and deliver instruction per class according to the curriculum discussed and created by coordinators.
  • Develop learning materials, learning strategies and deliver individualized programming focused on learners' needs and goals.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations, track learner progress, and maintain learners' records.
  • May need to oversee work of junior classroom assistant or coop students when doing placement with our agency. This will also require the appropriate coaching and mentoring as requested by Program Manager.
  • Assist Program Manager to develop innovative and creative ideas for all programming to cater to our target demographic.
  • Maintain and coordinate classroom scheduling, conduct intakes and host meetings with parents/guardians when necessary.
  • Provide customer service to parents/guardians and all other walkins inquiring about Pathways to Growth.
  • A high degree of independence will be required for this role. Critical to be a self starter and a forward thinker to anticipate issues and be proactive to address them.
  • Will need to use online platforms such as Zoom to deliver workshops (training and material will be provided) when required.
  • Communicate with Program Manager on an ongoing basis throughout the week.
  • Must be creative in utilizing the space and environment to all learners needs and see where promotion of program can be through physical marketing.
  • Must assist Program Manager in community outreach and facilitating partnership meetings for the interest of the program.
  • Must assist Program Manager in the upkeep and maintenance of all marketing materials for all programs offered.

Curriculum Development

  • Must be familiar with curriculum planning, creating, and executing.
  • Curriculum must be relevant and varied for all learners' interests, abilities, goals, and the structure of the program.
  • Integrate computer skills into programming when possible and encourage the use of computers.
  • Find creative resources to draw upon for curriculum creation and incorporate them into the program.
  • Work with the internal marketing team to create social media posts and raise awareness for our program.
  • Find creative ways to reach leaners both current and potential through marketing initiatives.
  • Will work individually or with the P2G team to ensure cohesiveness and common approach in program expansion, such as workshop topics, program themes and initiatives, etc.
  • Must communicate with Program Manager regarding learner's, their goals, and the referral process [if applicable].

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Diploma in Developmental Services Worker (DSW) or a University Degree in Social Sciences.
  • Related experience working with adults with Developmental Disabilities and Autism.
  • Previous experience supporting individuals with Autism/ Dual Diagnosis/ Mental Health disorders.
  • Experience supporting individuals with unique and challenging behaviors in active treatment environments an asset.
  • Experience in leadership roles, in and outside of the classroom setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding and training supporting individuals with ASD.
  • Highly motivated and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a multi cultural environment.
  • Understanding disability and social equity issues would be an asset.
  • Excellent reading, oral and written communication skills, as well as sound critical thinking and interpersonal skills
  • Must be committed to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion and be able to demonstrate an understanding of these principles as they relate to students' success and goal path.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the strengths and challenges of adults with multibarriers and disabilities and understand how to teach with these in mind; Understanding of how learning Disabilities can affect learning.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, tact, discretion, problemsolving skills and to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Being comfortable with social media and knowing how to use the various platforms would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks for multiple stakeholders is critical to be successful in this role.
