Group Benefits Underwriter opportunity can be suitable for a new grad from Mathematics, Actuarial or Statistics programs.

We can provide industry training on Group Benefits underwriting and help you launch a career in our growing and prosperous industry.

This role reports to the Director of Underwriting.

The Group Benefits Underwriter will be responsible for analyzing plan sponsor data to make recommendations relative to the performance of clients' employee benefits program and measuring actual results against industry standards and plan sponsor goals.


What you will do:


  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with insurance carriers & Account Managers
  • Price new business opportunities using both internal and external quoting systems
  • Analyze data and multiple carrier proposals, prepare cost comparisons & recommendations to the best option for the client
  • Coordinate new business implementation with account management and implementation team
  • Perform ad hoc investigations of claims data in order to explain trends to consultants/account managers, for information to client.
  • Gather data & perform analysis of estimated cost impact of plan design changes for self insured clients
  • Prepare client renewal reporting and reviews, including negotiations with insurers and completing the renewal cycle with reporting and commentary
  • Collaborate with other departments on processes and new product implementation
  • Track ongoing work, update workflow systems regularly and as necessary
  • Perform other duties/projects as assigned by management

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Entry level to 3 years previous experience underwriting in a Group Benefits environment.
  • Postsecondary education in mathematical sciences, commerce or a related field.
  • Superior communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Proficiency using MS Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Ability to work well in a fastpaced environment against deadlines; can prioritize competing demands.
  • Must be enrolled or be willing to enroll in CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist company sponsored)
  • Flexible, adaptable and open to change.
