General Accountability:


The Login Clerk 3 is responsible for performing duties in the sample receiving, logistics and administration areas of the client services department.

Duties to include sample receipt and log-in, client services, data entry and sample subletting as well as bottle preparation and organization.


Specific Responsibilities:


  • Oversee work and work flow;
  • Assign work on a daily basis;
  • Accepts samples and accurately processes cash payments in accordance with internal accounting practices for sample processing from private clients, enters all payments into the appropriate file and provides change if necessary;
  • Accurately performs cash reconciliation at the end of each shift;
  • Accurate data entry of all Chain of Custody information into internal Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS);
  • Provides assistance and feedback to clients regarding questions arising in sample receipt area;
  • Receives work orders as they arrive in the laboratory & performs sample triage;
  • Open and layout samples and paperwork to confirm all required samples have been received;
  • Enters client account number, project for billing and contact information in sample login screen;
  • Scan sample labels with barcode reader and transfer data into LIMS;
  • Enter analytical codes for samples;
  • Familiarity with all ALS location turnaround times (TATs);
  • May transport samples into lab, some heavy lifting required (up to 20kg);
  • Identify and resolve internal and external problems when they arise;
  • Assist with shipping/receiving (samples & supplies) in the Login/Shipping Receiving Area;
  • Assist with the proper packing and daily shipping of samples to client sand ALS network labs;
  • Clean, organize and distribute coolers as needed;
  • Ensure adherence to all procedures and policies (safety, quality, employment and technical);
  • Follow safety requirements in Safety Manual and communicate all safety concerns or incidents to Safety Rep
  • Train other staff
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Team Lead.
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Excellent organizational skills and be able to handle a fluctuating work load and prioritize work with great attention to detail;
  • Excellent English communication skills required (auditory, verbal, written, and reading);
  • Intermediate user of Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook), with basic knowledge of computers;
  • Excellent customer services skills, verbal skills including answering telephones;
  • Accurate and efficient data entry skill is an asset;
  • Capable of working with mínimal supervision;
  • Wellorganized and able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong customer service focus, interpersonal and organizational abilities;
  • Previous cash handling experience an asset.

Required Qualifications:


  • Minimum 3year administration experience with data entry;
  • Customer Service experience including cash handling;
  • BSc or Technical Diploma in Environmental Science or Chemistry an asset;
  • Valid unrestricted license for personal vehicle use applicable in the province/territory;
  • No major driving violations and no more than two minor violations/incidents.

Physical Demands:


  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
  • Ability to stand for up to a full shift;
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and carry for short distances;
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;
  • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
