Position Summary:


In this unique and exciting role, you will combine your creative communication and social media skills with your passion for promoting a peaceful co-existence for people and wildlife.

You will join a fantastic team of staff and volunteers committed to educating the public on wildlife issues and the work TWC does providing medical and rehabilitative care to sick, injured and orphaned wildlife, with the goal of releasing healthy animals back to the wild.


As a key member of the team, the Communications Coordinator will assist with executing strategy for all communications (social media, web, print publications etc.) to consistently articulate Toronto Wildlife Centre's mission.

Scope includes copywriting and content creation for our varied and integrated communication channels and ensuring adherence to our style and branding guidelines.

Your goal is to advance our position and profile with relevant constituents, as well as drive broader awareness and donor support.


Accountabilities:


  • Coordinate the creation of content for social media channels, website, print and online newsletters, brochures, and communications projects as needed, while maintaining brand standards and enforcing style guidelines
  • Copywriting for online and print communications
  • Overseeing social media calendar, posting content and monitoring our presence across social media channels. Compiling analytics to inform ongoing strategy
  • Work alongside Digital Content Creator to ensure all social media content is completed and approved by the Communications Manager to deadline
  • Assist with developing and implementing an integrated strategic communications plan to broaden awareness of programs and mission, and increase the visibility of our programs across key stakeholder audiences
  • Updating and maintaining website (WordPress)
  • Assist with capturing and editing videos and photographs for social media and other communication materials
  • Collaborating with staff to recognize communication opportunities and solutions, and execute appropriate strategies to support them
  • Work collaboratively with communications staff and volunteers. Training of new staff/volunteers, as needed
  • Assist Communications Manager with coordinating projects
  • Assist with other communication and fundraising tasks as needed

Position Requirements:


  • Education:
  • Postsecondary education in communications, writing, journalism, web and/or design, or related
  • Education in fundraising or related an asset
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a communications, journalism or writing role
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Lightroom, Photoshop and Premier Pro
  • 12 years experience in a writing role

  • Flawless writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Selfstarter and able to work independently; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives and taking on leadership roles
  • Strong experience with WordPress
  • Ability to work quickly and under tight timelines; ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Savvy with current popular social media channels, including capabilities for uploading media and hosting live events
  • Strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively within a fastpaced and dynamic environment
  • Some experience with photography/videography
  • Sincere commitment to working collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
  • Passion for Toronto Wildlife Centre's mission
  • Other assets would include:
  • Social media/digital marketing
  • Basic understanding of SEO and web analytics
  • Basic graphic design skills (InDesign, Photoshop etc.)
  • Knowledge of Southern Ontario wildlife identification and natural history

Working Conditions:


  • Work shifts will be from Tuesday to Saturday, 8 hours per day. May require occasional work on evenings, Sundays or holidays
  • Fastpaced, demanding role
  • Typical office environment, with equipment noise and the possibility of frequent interruption
  • Some work is performed outdoors and may be required to work in various weather conditions
  • Opportunities to work from home

Physical Requirements:


  • Requires the ability to spend extended periods sitting and using a computer keyboard
  • Work is performed both inside and outside
  • Required to walk on concrete floors in the building and uneven ground outside in a fastpaced, sometimes physically active role
