Qualifications:


  • RECE or Equivalent
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Have 5+ years experience
  • Have knowledge of the regulatory requirements, fire code, public health, ministry of education requirements, child development and all the centre's policies and procedures
  • Must obtain a criminal record search prior to employment

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information, parent and child information, family, parent, and child issues, staff performance issues, and other information that would commonly be expected to be confidential.

Lead and Supervise Staff, which includes:
a) Organize staff meetings

b) Prepare job descriptions

c) Assign staff duties

d) Over see staff duties and responsibilities to ensure they are fulfilled

e) Perform annual staff evaluations

f) Perform interim reviews and setup performance improvement plans if required

g) Hire and dismiss employees as required

h) Plan staff holidays

i) Maintain staff files

j) Check all weekly planners and following up staff

k) Schedule staff, review staff attendance, send staff home early depending on attendance

l) Staff orientation and training for new hires

m) Arrange for supply when needed

n) Inform staff of any applicable changes in the centre

o) Ensure licensing compliance is maintained in the classroom

p) Assigning staff to classrooms

q) Provide staff with annual child progress reports

r) Delegate to the assistance supervisor as required

s) Have staff review and sign off on any required documentation


  • Customer Service
a) Maintain professional and active communication with all parents

b) Meet with parents on any issues that may arise

c) Meet with new families for orientation and tour to the centre

d) Plan children's holidays as to Centre's Policy

e) Maintain all children files

f) Calling parents of children that are sick

g) Make referrals to agencies when needed

h) Prepare parent bulletin boards regularly

i) Move children through classrooms as they develop

j) Schedule annual graduation

k) Ensure safety of children and safety of classrooms

l) Organize (or delegate) special event (fundraising, etc.)

m) Provide parents with annual surveys

n) Ensure payments from parents

o) Report any cases if abuse to the proper authorities

p) Ensure children with special needs are cared for and their needs are being met


  • General
a) Provide oversight on the program and make changes as necessary

b) Prepare classroom schedules

c) Plan and implement a program and learning experiences for children in regards to there their physical, social, cognitive, and emotional development in accordance with the philosophy of the centre and the Day Nursery Act

d) Follow day care behavior management protocol

e) Maintain and implement updated knowledge of the DNA

f) Read the daily log book frequently throughout the day

g) Purchase (or delegate) any materials, foods, and other consumables required for day care operation

h) Request approval from the owner on any capital (e.g. furniture) or service contract (e.g. lawn care) expenses

i) Review children's files and as they stat to be aware of any allergies and other relevant information

j) Help maintain a safe clean environment for the children by

a. Ensuring all sanitary practices are followed

b. Know the number of children in the room at all times

c. Keep toxic materials out of reach of children at all times

d. Be familiar with fire drill procedures and duties

e. Ensure proper storage of supplies and materials

f. Ensure toys are disinfected weekly and mouthed toys daily

g. Ensure children's bed sheets are changed regularly

h. Ensure toys are age appropriate and are rotated regularly

i. Ensure that the children's needs are met first

k) Ensure up to date child's birthday boards are posted in each room

l) Ensure policy and procedures for playground supervision are followed

m) Rate the program each year according to the environmental rating scales


  • Office
a) Conduct a practice fire drill once a month

b) Prepare weekly child attendance records

c) Answer the telephone

d) Mail letters and get mail

e) Have knowledge of the daycare so you can give proper information when asked

f) Prepare monthly calendars and newsletters

g) Give daily lunch numbers to the cook

h) Schedule annual picture day

i) Obtain new information about subsidize children

j) Obtain information from other agencies about children with special needs

k) Display all certificates achieved by the centre

l) Photocopy all forms and documents

m) Prepare any thank you notes or acknowledgements

o) Maintain and file records annually

p) Prepare and host licensing visits
