Description

We currently have practicum work opportunity for the position of Life Learning Leisure Assistant for 10 weeks at our Administration Office located at Suite 804, 7015 Macleod Trail SW Calgary, AB T2H 2K6.

Hours of work are 8 hours per day 5 days per week for 8 weeks.

Scheduled hours will include a variety of day shifts from Monday through Friday, with availability to flex into evening and/or weekend shifts on occasion.


This position is being funded by Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) which provides wage subsidies to employers to create quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years.

To be considered for this position, you must meet Silvera for Senior's position requirements as well as the requirements set out by CSJ as follows:


CSJ Requirements:


  • Be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old of age at the beginning of the employment period;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act _for the duration of employment; and;
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations


Reporting to the Advisor, Co-creating Learning and Leisure, the Life Learning Leisure Assistant works in accordance with the 6 Dimensions of Wellness model: physical, mental, spiritual, cultural, vocational and social well-being of each resident.

This individual will provide program facilitation, data collection and creation of resource materials.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Facilitate and adapt programs aligned with the dimensions of wellness, promising practices and resident requests;
  • Promote opportunities for residents to engage in life, learning and leisure programs, either in groups or independently; proactively interact with residents, individually and in groups, to encourage participation and solicit feedback;
  • Coordinate physical spaces and materials required for programs and events;
  • Monitor resident participation and responses during programs and provide observations and recommendations;
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are clean, maintained and stored in a safe, and efficient manner.
  • Compile data regarding program usage; solicit program feedback from residents via surveys;
  • Create resource guides, posters, and user guides to support residents to independently access resources

Qualifications:


  • Demonstrates passion for and experience working with older adults;
  • Postsecondary education or training in recreation/leisure/gerontology is preferred;
  • Experience in delivering programs;
  • Demonstrates creativity, innovation, enthusiasm and a positive, teamoriented attitude;
  • Strong customer service orientation with demonstrated oral, written and presentation skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically with Word, Excel, Publisher and Outlook;
  • Must have WHMIS, Food Safety and Proserve, or willingness to obtain.

Working Conditions:


  • Must have valid drivers' license and access to a reliable vehicle, as occasional travel is required;
  • Work within different environments, both within a primary location as well as alternate locations;
  • Be flexible and able to respond to a variety of changing duties and work routines, on occasion work under somewhat stressful situations.
