Your Opportunity:

The Facility Maintenance & Engineering department is seeking an individual for the New Gene Zwozdesky Centre at Norwood.

This capital project is currently in the commissioning phase and this individual will provide input and feedback through all phases of commissioning and operational readiness from a Facilities Maintenance and Engineer perspective.

This individual will lead the AHS Commissioning team.

As the project progresses turnover of the building is completed the Lead Hand will transition to an operational support model.

This critical operational position will be primarily responsible for leadership, supervision, task allocation and oversight for all the FM&E positions located at the Norwood hospital.

The position reports to the Norwood Facility Manager. The Lead hand will supervise frontline staff and contracted vendors for the Gene Zwozdesky Centre.

The Lead Hand must be a Journeyman tradesperson certified to perform work in an applicable trade, who possesses strong leadership abilities in addition to technical knowledge.

The incumbent is considered part of the RAH/GRH/Norwood FM&E leadership team and will be expected to demonstrate leadership while effectively motivating staff to produce timely, quality work and to embody the AHS values of compassion, accountability, respect, excellence, and safety.

The Lead Hand is expected to work independently within established guidelines and procedures and has the authority to take initiative within assigned areas of responsibility.

The primary location will be at the Gene Zwozdesky Centre at Norwood but if an event unfolds, this person may be asked to work at other sites within the zone.

Potential multi-site duties as directed by FM&E Director or Manager and is to become familiar with the building and systems and operate the building as required during construction, pre and post occupancy.

As a Lead Hand, you will be responsible for providing functional supervision to a moderately sized group of similar journeyperson trade staff.

In addition to functional supervision, you will perform a wide variety of journeyperson level trade duties associated with maintaining, renovating, repairing and construction in accordance with AHS standards and practices.

You will assign work of journeyperson and supervise staff and perform ongoing maintenance work in an area of assigned trade or related responsibility.

In addition, you will provide health and safety training and orientation and ensure compliance.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Trade Certificate from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of commercial/institutional construction methods and of construction management and contract administration. Experience with project scope creation and process would be an asset. Past/present proven experience with process driven and complex problem solving tasks. Must be able to maintain composure and make decisions in emergency situations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
