FAVA is a non-profit, charitable, member-based society that exists to facilitate and support affordable access to production, exhibition, distribution, and preservation of independent film, video and screen media art in Northern Alberta.

Position Summary_


Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Programming & Events Director represents the organization as the face of FAVAs Educational programming and community events, and is committed to strengthening FAVA's mission, vision, and values by serving the needs of the FAVA members through the development and delivery of onboarding, information, and programming (workshops, member related events, festivals, classes, etc.).

This position works closely with the Membership & Communications team and supports initiatives in the form of developing strategy and content to engage membership.

This role actively participates and contributes to professional, collaborative, and respectful teams at the staff level, project level and committee level.

Programming & Events Duties Responsibilities Summary_

  • Responsible for developing courses, curriculum and educational programs; responsible for working in collaboration with instructions, students, and community partners as required.
  • Responsible for developing overarching annual programming direction and implementation of programming initiatives at the organization.
  • Tracks course registration and is responsible for administering course registration process for attendees; responsible for administering access and course planning information to course instructors.
  • Responsible for developing curation of programs as they pertain to internal and external screening opportunities for members.
  • Responsible for fundraising endeavours of the organization which includes but is not limited to: communications to potential donors, managing donations to the organization from the community, AGLC Casino Fundraiser, etc.
  • Responsible for creating plans and action items to reach the organizations goals for events and fundraisers.
  • Responsible for working with community partners and sponsors of events, creating clear expectations and communications for partners and sponsors of FAVA events.
  • Planning, creation, activation of internal and external events of the organization such as: FAVA Summer BBQ, FAVA Christmas Party, FAVA Gala, GMFF Awards Events, etc.
Finance & Administration Duties Summary

  • Responsible for researching and pursuing funding opportunities for educational programs and events, in collaboration with the Chief of Staff and Fund Development Officer.
  • Prepares regular reports on education, programming, and event activities and resents them to the Chief of Staff, Board of Directors, and granting bodies on activities and operations as required.
  • Manages education and events budget in consultation with the Executive Director, and Chief of Staff; maintains current information on both actual and projected expenses, presents interiM/Final education budget to the Executive Director as required.

Qualifications Include_

  • Selfdirected and driven to learn and evolve in the department.
  • Strong analytical, reporting and writing skills
  • Able to create and manage small and largescale budgets
  • Ability to be selfsustaining in the department, among being able to work collaboratively with other department heads.
  • Ability to problem solve on the fly.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Providing excellent customer service to our members and the community with strong communication skills both written and verbally.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Create Cloud.
  • A Diploma or degree in an arts, film, or digital media program preferred however not required.

This job may sometimes require time and commitment outside of regular working hours including during lunch breaks, evenings and weekends.

Depending on the situation, compensation for theseneeds can be addressed through adjusting the standard workday schedule or banking hours with Chief of Staff approval.

This role may be required to travel, present, facilitate and act as a media spokesperson.
