Position Overview


Program Objective:

A Clinical Extern is an unregulated health care provider who provides basic clinical care to patients and their families. They will work in collaboration with an interdisciplinary healthcare team under the supervision of an appointed regulated healthcare professional.

Types of eligible clinical learners are those in nursing, respiratory therapy, medicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, allied health programs, or recent Canadian medical graduates awaiting the start of their residency.


Practice in a team-based model of care to provide support to the patient care teams by assisting with basic clinical tasks.


Assists the care team with:
Performing vital signs under supervision;
Documenting all interventions for patient care;
Observe and reporting changes in patient's condition;
Lifting, positioning, turning, transferring and ambulating patients;
Transporting patients and specimens as required;
Feeding, Weighing, bathing/grooming and toileting;
Responding to patient requests, including call bells;
Assisting with emergency situations as directed;
Providing one-on-one observation and care of designated patients.


REQUIREMENTS:


Qualifications:

Must have completed the 2nd year of a recognized program such as: nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy.
Current C.P.R. certification

Skills / Abilities
Ability to work effectively as an active member of the health care team.
Possess a working knowledge of both official languages.


HOURS OF WORK:

Temporary full-time


Rotation:
days, evenings, nights and week-ends
Temporary positions for 16 weeks
Criminal Check


As a pre-condition of employment:


All new HGH employees will be required to obtain and provide a satisfactory Police Records Check dated within six (6) months from the date of issue.

As of now, HGH will require all employees, physicians, learners, contractors and volunteers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
