The Opportunity


The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) department is part of BC Ferries' Finance Division and is responsible for managing BC Ferries' 12-year capital plan, annual operating budget and ad hoc analysis as the organization's primary business intelligence unit.

The team consists of highly motivated finance professionals who support organizational budgeting, forecasting, and reporting across all operating units and capital projects, as well as provide expertise in financial analysis to inform decision making.


The Financial Support Analyst works within the operating stream of FP&A, supporting the Manager in facilitating the annual budget process, quarterly forecasting and ongoing financial reporting.

You work as part of a team and are responsible for ensuring the FP&A software is operating accurately and effectively.

As the main point person for software support and administration, you utilize your problem solving and analytical skills to build and maintain financial models.

You provide direct technical expertise and are able to diagnose, troubleshoot and provide technical assistance. You have a financial mind, with a strong understanding of reporting, forecasting, budgeting and modeling.

You have formal training in IT systems, or equivalent relevant experience, as well as an exceptional attention to detail. You are able to learn new technologies, processes and procedures, and are comfortable working with large data sets. You are successful in a financial reporting environment because of your strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Business, Finance, Computer Science. Other relevant education may be considered
  • 3 years experience in a systems administrator type or other relevant role. Practical experience working in a FP&A environment is preferred
  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to learn new software
  • A detail oriented, team player who is selfmotivated, organized, adaptable and curious
  • Understanding of forecasting, financial modelling and management reporting
  • An outside the box thinker who is able to generate solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, articulating ideas clearly and effectively
  • Good interpersonal and proven relationship building skills
  • Experience with an enterprise level system (i.e. Oracle) FP&A software and BI Analytics tools is an asset, but not required
