This portfolio is on the cutting edge of innovation in the telecommunications space where TELUS is actively engaged with Indigenous communities to identify opportunities to expand broadband technology and services to areas otherwise unreachable.

Not only are you able to navigate complexities, but you thrive in researching land titles, rights of way, federal approvals and permitting of telecommunication facilities.

Furthermore, your collaborative nature serves you well as you assist in the development of policies for building and operating telecommunication works on different types of Reserve, Land Code and Modern Treaty lands.


Here's how

  • Compiles relevant property information including ownership, details of land regime (ex. Indian Act or Indigenous Land Code) and existing interests in support of property transactions
  • Reports on the content of existing interests to determine what additional consents and approvals are required for proposed telecommunications works
  • Prepares documents for execution and checks thereafter to ensure completion and accuracy for registration
  • Program manages the registration process for all interests acquired on Indigenous lands, primarily in British Columbia and Alberta
  • Evaluates procedures and recommend improvements on the delivery of projects
  • Ensures quality control of data entry and tracking of lands, registered interests and all thirdparty consents, necessary to hand over to the implementation teams

  • An appreciation of the unique history, cultures and rights of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and passion for supporting Reconciliation
  • Demonstrated ability to research and analyze documents related to property transactions
  • Respected for your experience preparing documents for and working with processes and procedures related to the preparation of rights of way to secure tenure on provincial, federal and reserve and treaty lands
  • Valued as an exceptional communicator with a knack for effectively interacting with both internal and external stakeholders, including landowners and Indigenous government authorities
  • Acknowledged for your ability to read and interpret development and construction drawings
  • Praised for your work ethic to drive projects and tasks to finish on time, overcoming obstacles along the way; expertise to solve problems, drawing on your past experience and leveraging existing resources
  • Regarded for your attention to details and excellent organizational skills
  • Paralegal Diploma or Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and 5+ years of experience in the rights of way management in the communications or utilities industry
  • Worked with various landowners and land regimes, including federal, provincial & Indigenous government, regarding land access
  • Knowledgeable with respect to regulatory and statutory authorities; including provincial & federal acts

Great-to-haves

  • Ability to interpret lease and license agreement; read & understand legal clauses
  • Working knowledge of right of way acquisition
  • Experience in Indigenous government engagement
  • Strong conflict resolution capabilities
  • Knowledge of Google Suite software
