Position Description
Reports to the District Principal, Pathways and Choice, the District Career Education Lead works as a liaison between students, parents, District staff, local post-secondary institutions, Skilled Trades BC, and community employers/partners regarding career-related programs, courses, and events.
Working with the District Career Education Team, school-based career advisors, career coordinators, career teacher contacts, counselors, teachers, and PVP, the District Career Education Lead supports SD62 students and staff.
Position ResponsibilitiesWorks with the District Principal, Pathways and Choice to engage community employers/partners to promote, facilitate and expand opportunities for SD62 students in Grades 9-12
Works with post-secondary institutions, community and industry partners to develop innovative exploration opportunities for students including the Ministry of Education and Child Care (MECC) and Skilled Trades BC
Leads and supports student programming in dual-credit programs and courses including Youth Discover the Trades Exploration (STX) and Sampler (TASK) courses, Youth Train in Trades (YTT), Youth Work in Trades (YWT), Work Experience (WEX), and South Island Partnership (SIP)
Actively participates in Skills Canada, Career Education Society (CES), Vancouver Island Career Educators Association (VICEA), Industry sector and employer groups, Skilled Trades BC, Ministry of Education and Child Care, SD62 Online and Continuing Education, School Board staff, SD62 Elementary, Middle, and Secondary schools
Acts as the Skilled Trades BC liaison for funding, data and reporting
Conducts site visits for WEX and YWT programming including construction and industrial worksites
Manages the Career Education Department's Budget (Grades 9-12)
Continues to promote, maintain and scale dual-credit and career-related programs, courses, and events
Supports Career and ADST Curriculum (Grades 9-12)
Writes and supports grants
Reviews and supports the MECC audit
Provides professional learning and in-service opportunities
Maintains data within systems and databases to effectively track information
Supports SD62 Online and Continuing Education
Leads District Career Education meetings (monthly)
Supports the MyBlueprint system
Supports Robotics curriculum programming
Maintains Career Education Website (Career Resources)
Preferred Qualifications
Successful secondary (Grades 9-12) classroom teaching experience
Knowledge and experience with Careers Curriculum (K-12)
Knowledge and experience with Applied Design, Skills and Technology (ADST)
Knowledge and experience and/or training with coding/programming, robotics and Design Thinking
Working knowledge of systems and databases (MyBlueprint, MyEdBC, DCMS, Skilled Trades BC Direct Access)
Experience operating a budget
Experience working in construction and industrial settings
Experience facilitating learning with adults
Red Seal in a skilled trade is an asset
Holds a valid BC Driver's License and access to a vehicle to travel to district sites
