What You Will Do:


  • Provide support and instruction to people supported in artistic skills development that will encourage them to engage in recreation and other skills.
  • Provide a supervised, safe and healthy environment for all participants.
  • Plan, publicize, and host an exhibition of the art projects produced by the people supported who participated in the program.
  • Observe and record supported persons' participation, reactions, and progress.
  • Prepare written reports for the program funders following the completion of each workshop and other documentation as required.
  • Work with Aptus teams to develop/follow/run workshops and learning materials for people supported in a variety of artistic areas.
  • Order/purchase/maintain adequate amounts of art supplies to ensure that the materials needed for each class are on hand and readily available for use.
  • Maintain most the recent and applicable Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) standards in the art space.

What You offer to Aptus:


  • Previous direct experience supporting children and adults with dualdiagnosis, mental health, development disabilities in a mental health facility and/or communitybased setting.
  • Understanding of disability issues, resources and legislation relevant to supporting people with a developmental disability (including human rights and poverty).
  • Prior direct experience in a social or recreation arts workshop program preferred.
  • Experience working with people with physical or developmental disabilities.
  • Demonstrated good judgment in decision making and problem solving
  • Proven ability to design, develop, and deliver effective arts programs.
  • Knowledge of the strategies and procedures for dealing with aggressive behavior; demonstrated experience intervening effectively in crisis situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated crosscultural awareness and sensitivity required.
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector police check that satisfies the employer's requirements for working with vulnerable persons/the people we support.
  • Qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
