Under the supervision of Jack Antel, the Research Associate will be responsible for:
- Develops and caries out specialized tissue culture protocols involving human neural cells and corresponding cell lines. Analyzes cells using immune-cytochemical techniques and prepares cells for molecular analyses.
- Prepares human CNS tissue specimens for immunehistochemical studies and then conducts such studies.
- Work with collaborative teams on the multidisciplinary aspects of the research projects.
- Provide guidance to students on the platform and incorporate the tools they develop as appropriate.
- Work with collaborative teams on the multidisciplinary aspects of the research projects and will further analyze the data, write drafts of manuscripts, and contribute to the writing of grants.
- Work with bioinformaticians in data analysis of next generation sequencing data.
- Performs bioinformatic analysis on publicly available datasets such as the UK biobank, AMP-PD, dbGaP and others.
- Organizes and carries out laboratory projects and experiments within objectives set by the supervisor. Reviews, selects, and modifies methodology and performs literature searches.
- Compiles and maintains experimental and analytical data as well as assures that backups are routinely made.
- Analyzes and discusses results and their interpretation with the PI and other lab members. Participates in devising new experimental methodology and helps optimize new procedures.
- Participates in the preparation of material for publication or presentation. Prepares graphs, tables, reference lists, and descriptions of procedures.
- Updates skills and knowledge by reading up on new developments in the technical fields and by attending departmental seminars.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- PhD in relevant field.
- Experience utilizing techniques outlined in duties section and with experience in supervising a laboratory with related research programs.
- Publication record in internationally recognized journals.
- Experience with tissue culture, immunehistochemical, and molecular analytic techniques.
- Good understanding of statistics is a plus.
- Strong oral communication and writing skills.
- Strong organization skills, attention to detail and priority setting skills.
- Ability to work autonomously in a complex, changing, deadlineoriented environment.
Hourly Salary:
$28.44
