Scope of Position
The
Yard Operations Supervisor will be responsible for effectively and efficiently leading the team and stockyard operations.

As part of the leadership team, the
Yard Operations Supervisor will ensure that a high standard of accuracy, organization and timely processing of deliveries, receiving and refurbishments is maintained, within a safety-first environment.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Directly oversee activities of the Yard Operations including:

  • Overseeing a team consisting of 5-12 members
  • Assisting with recruiting, hiring, and training new employees
  • Coaching, leading, and managing employees to be consistent with an exceptional level of customer service; tracking attendance and ensuring payroll duties are completed on a weekly basis
  • Recording key performance indicators
  • Ensuring overall quality assurance standards are achieved for both materials and processes
  • Optimizing labour, equipment, and material resource efficiencies
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives
  • Identify improvement opportunities such as process, procedure, documentation, and personnel
  • Ensuring inventory accuracy is maximized and performing inventory checks when required
  • Other duties as assigned
Maintain the highest standards of workplace health and safety by:

  • Contributing with their understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Ensuring that employees are adhering to all established health and safety policies/procedures
  • Establishing control measures for hazards and identifying hazards
  • Ensuring employees are trained on all applicable equipment
  • Ensuring regular safety talks, toolbox meetings are training sessions are being conducted
  • Ensuring regular workplace inspections are completed
  • Conducting incident / accident / near miss investigations
  • Participating in workers compensation claims management and the returntowork program

Education and Qualifications

  • Postsecondary education (College diploma, University degree) or equivalent experience
  • 3 years' experience in a supervisory role
  • Previous experience working in an outdoor yard environment is an asset
  • Previous experience operating a dieselpowered counterbalance forklift is an asset
  • Experience in logístical coordination and/or inventory management
  • Dedication to promoting and maintaining the highest standard of workplace health and safety
  • Practical knowledge of employment standards and health and safety standards

Working Conditions

  • 8hour workday
  • Work is performed outdoors and indoors year round
  • Operation of desktop computer and peripherals
  • Regular exposure to dust, dirt, and grime
  • Constant exposure to forklift and transport truck traffic
  • Regular exposure to moderate noise levels
  • Must wear the personal protective equipment required in work areas

Physical Requirements (if applicable)

  • Standing and walking up to 8 hours per day as required
