The Opportunity:
As part of the Language Programs team, the Early Childhood Educator provides a caring and positive learning environment for children in the childcare programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Is alert and responsive to children's needs at all times, fostering a caring and positive learning environment.
- Participates in planning for, and implements daily activities, and ensures that all activities are developmentally appropriate. Prepares materials and equipment for activities.
- Maintains the cleanliness of equipment and supplies.
- Guides children in activities; telling stories, teaching songs, leading discussions.
- Guides and assists children in the development of appropriate life skills and interactive behaviour.
- Ensures the safety and hygiene of all children while in the center.
- Immediately reports instances of suspected child abuse to the Day Care Coordinator.
- Adheres to the Centers guidelines for discipline and managing behaviors appropriately.
- Maintains the cleanliness of equipment and supplies.
- Adheres to DIVERSEcity and personnel policies, procedures and practices.
- Any other duties as required.
- Early Childhood Education Certificate, with a minimum of one years' experience working with children aged 0 - 6 years. Infant Toddler Certificate and/or Special Needs Certificate is an asset.
- Previous current and relevant experience in a childcare setting.
- Understanding and sensitivity to the needs of young children, and their parents/caregivers.
- Cross-cultural experience and knowledge of settlement issues.
- Ability to plan daily activities appropriate to the curriculum of the program.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, oral and written.
- Standard First Aid and CPR training; Child Safe training and Food Safe training are assets.
- A criminal record check is a condition of employment.
- Second language an asset
