    JOB TITLE: STEAM DIRECTOR

    DEPARTMENT: Community Services

    JOB STATUS & DURATION: Part Time Seasonal and Temporary

    HOURS OF WORK: 24 hour workweek

    STARTING SALARY: $24.68 per hour

    AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

    Reporting to the Recreation Programmer/Recreation Coordinator, the STEAM Director will plan, organize and implement a high-quality program that is stimulating and enjoyable for all participants. Provide supervision, guidance and coaching to staff and volunteers. Responsible for the safety and wellbeing of registered participants and staff at all times.

  • Plan, organize and deliver high-quality, safe, and stimulating lessons for all levels of participants
  • Keep current with industry trends and new class formats
  • Administer medications according to policy (if required)
  • Recruit, supervise, coach and evaluate staff
  • Assist with promotion of programs
  • Develop, deliver and document staff training and meetings
  • Assist with the development of program curriculum and lesson plans
  • Ensure staff are following program plans and legislative requirements
  • Monitor the use of equipment and supplies, conduct inventory counts and re-stock as needed
  • Maintain complete vigilance while on duty and be ready to respond to any emergency
  • Handle program feedback in a professional manner by providing exceptional customer service
  • Complete administrative duties in a timely manner
  • Maintain a safe and tidy program space, ensuring equipment is set-up and stored appropriately
  • Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to immediate supervisor and take appropriate action
  • Provide support as a STEAM Instructor and teach programs, when necessary
  • Maintain an understanding of department programs and services
  • Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants, and staff
  • Attend meetings/trainings as required
  • Travel between locations as required
  • Assume responsibility and control of the facility and provide guidance and leadership to other part-time staff while providing exceptional customer service
  • Monitor programs and functions to ensure that building security is maintained. Contact emergency personnel (. police, ambulance) if required
  • Open and close building, ensuring that alarms are properly set; and doors are secured in the event of any emergency situation take charge in the absence of Supervisory staff
  • Oversee STEAM Instructors in absence of Supervisor or Programmer/Coordinator
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • SELECTION CRITERIA:

    EDUCATION:

  • Enrolled in or has obtained a post-secondary Degree/Diploma in one of the following: Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science, Science, Bachelor of Education or Early Childhood Education or equivalent experience
  • REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum one year of experience teaching various age groups
  • OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:

  • Supervisory experience, considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrate ability to use computer coding applications, robotics, graphic art programs, modeling and design programs and/or technology
  • Participation in Robotics, Computer Programming, or Sci Tech teams or clubs is considered an asset
  • Valid Ontario driver's licence and full-time use of a vehicle, considered an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid / CPR C from an accredited organization, or ability to obtain within 1 month of date of hire.
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development or Sport Certification, or ability to obtain within 2 months of the date of hire
  • HIGH FIVE Quest 2, considered an asset
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • **Preference will be given to students that have a permanent residency in Brampton.
