Description
Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Sustainability, the Cycling and Sustainable Transportation Officer is responsible for overseeing the operation, evolution, and continuous improvement of the existing Bike Hub programs at Sheridan's campuses.
The Officer is responsible for overseeing/executing core Bike Hub services including bike loans and do-it-yourself repair/tune-up space, as well as developing other supplemental programming designed to promote a culture of cycling at Sheridan.
The Officer is also responsible for recruiting and training co-ops and volunteers to assist with core operational tasks, developing marketing/communications content to promote the Bike Hub and other sustainable transportation programs to Sheridan students and employees, reporting progress internally and externally, and working with community partners to engage the broader community in meaningful active transportation opportunities.
In consultation with the Manager, Corporate Sustainability, the Officer will also support the development and implementation of a sustainable transportation plan, which will include cycling as well as other forms of active and low-impact transportation, with the aim of reducing fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, supporting transportation equity, and promoting access to affordable, safe, and convenient mobility options for the Sheridan community.
What You'll be DoingOverseeing and maintaining daily operations of the existing Bike Hub programs at Sheridan's campuses, including recruitment and training of co-op students and volunteers to assist with core operational tasks (e.g., register/check in new Bike Hub users, set up and manage inventory for bike loans including bike safety checks, set up and maintain bike mechanic space for bike tune-ups/repairs);
Supporting the development and implementation of a sustainable transportation plan, including cycling and other forms of active and low-impact transportation, with the aim of reducing fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, supporting transportation equity, and promoting access to affordable, safe, and convenient mobility options for the Sheridan community;
Implementing and maintaining a tracking system for daily Bike Hub services provided, develop/ manage Bike Hub budgets, and research/recommend/write proposals for grants and external funding to support Sheridan's sustainable transportation programs;
Developing, facilitating and promoting supplemental programming/workshops/events designed to promote a culture of cycling at Sheridan, as well as working with and establishing community partners to engage the broader community;
Developing marketing and communications strategies/content to promote Bike Hub and other sustainable transportation programs to Sheridan students and employees, such as newsletters, announcements, website updates, and social media content;
Tracking and reporting program and event results and program updates/evaluation through meetings and written reports to Manager/internal stakeholders and relevant external funders, including research and recommendations for continuous improvement of Bike Hub operational procedures and Sheridan's sustainable transportation programs to meet the changing needs of the Sheridan community;
Performing other related duties, as assigned.
About You
You have the skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse student and staff population as well as a proven commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion.
You are an experienced cyclist with keen interest in promoting and helping others use cycling and other forms of active transportation for commuting.
You have the will and initiative to succeed and are familiar or curious about entrepreneurship and how it can be a force for good in our community.
You have excellent communication, analytical, organization and data management skills.
You are client-service focused with an aptitude to make connections, support others, provide excellent customer service and may identify as a community builder.
2 years experience developing or running cycling programs or events and/or facilitating cycling/sustainability workshops and/or facilitating sustainable transportation planning initiatives (equivalency will be considered)
Experience recruiting, training and/or working with volunteers, or volunteering in cycling or other sustainability related initiatives will be considered an asset
Experience managing budgets and basic bookkeeping experience will be considered an asset
Bike mechanic/repair skills are highly desirable
