Application Support Summer Student - Calgary, Canada - Canadian Pacific

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The student will assist the Legal & Risk Applications Team in all tasks required to achieve the organizational goals and is accountable for gathering, understanding and documenting business processes, and the requirements and specifications needed to recommend and implement new solutions that will enable the organization to achieve its goals
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Projects
- Coordinate diverse groups who contribute to business requirements and build consensus for requirements across the various user groups.
- Capture and document nonfunctional requirements that are important to the user community (i.e. usability, learnability, reliability). Liaise with architecture to ensure other nonfunctional requirements are considered (i.e. security, compatibility, maintainability).
- Assist in driving the development of functional and system specifications
- Conducting fit/gap analysis and business process modeling
- Develop diagrams and models (use case, activity diagram, business process models, etc.) and clearly document functional requirements and business rules to describe what the system, process, or product/service must do in order to fulfill the business and user requirements.
- Developing and executing tests to confirm the functionality
- Support the development of the test strategy and test plans. Ensure traceability of requirements back to business need as well as through to solution and testing. Validate the solution meets the business need and verify it conforms to specifications.
- Creating necessary documentation and delivering knowledge transfer sessions
- Communicating in a team environment
- Translating requirements for changes to business processes, policies and information systems to technical teams designing and implementing the solution. Assist with creating user guides and training.
Support
- Create, execute and document functional analysis activities
- Provide training and knowledge to meet business requirements.
- Provide recommendations on process improvements and system's gap solution
- Providing system and user problem aid and support to various CPKC departments and users
- Creating and/or updating business process procedures documentation
- Developing detailed test plans and scripts using Qtest
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Pursuing studies in Information Technology, Information Management or Supply Chain related program
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent analytical, prioritization and scheduling skills
- Mastery of Microsoft Excel is preferred
- Experience with Software Development Life Cycle for waterfall, iterative, agile and/or project methodologies is preferred
- Students must provide proof they will be returning to a full time study program after the term
