Qualifications:

Essential:


  • Postsecondary degree in health sciences or public administration. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience providing leadership and direction in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of legislation, policies and programs related to public health.
  • Experience translating strategic priorities into clear operational and business plans.
  • Experience with strategic performance management and measurement systems (e.g. Key Performance Indicators, Balanced Scorecards).
  • Strong verbal communication skills to effectively convey information to the public, key partners and stakeholders.
  • Leadership skills to create, support and sustain a supportive environment that enables staff to achieve results.
  • Strong problem solving skills to evaluate and provide strategic advice and options to senior leaders on complex topics and sensitive issues.
  • Ability to leverage opportunities for innovation, find creative solutions to issues and successfully manage change.
  • Experience building relationships and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent written communication skills to produce complex written material for a variety of audiences.

Desired:


  • Experience working with Indigenous people/organizations and implementing the principles of reconciliation.

Duties:


As a senior member of the department's public health team, the Strategic Initiatives Lead provides leadership and strategic direction for the promotion, design, development and implementation of policy and program initiatives that align with the strategic priorities of the office and are aimed at improving the health of Manitobans and reducing health inequities.

In collaboration with the Population and Public Health branch, this role also focuses on an inter-disciplinary and/or whole of government approach through consultation and support to other departments on shared priorities.
