CUPE 5791 Job Family Category Staff Number of Vacancies 1 Position Summary


Reporting to the Academic Program Coordinator, the Academic Advisor will provide academic guidance to prospective and current students working on Faculty of Arts programs.

This includes assisting and monitoring student progress in programs within the faculty and university policies, advising about degree requirements, evaluation of the transferability of courses taken at other post-secondary institutions, assisting with course registration, and resolving issues with registration or program completion.


The incumbent will participate in and help coordinate other activities in the Arts Student Services Office, which may include assisting with Calendar revisions, graduation processing, timetable preparation, support for the faculty and university committees, academic action(s), student recruitment and retention planning and initiatives, and other related duties, as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • A fouryear University degree combined with a minimum of three to five years of related experience in a postsecondary environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of the organization, operation, and registration procedures.
  • Knowledge of academic policies, procedures, and programs within the Faculty of Arts and the University of Regina.
  • Knowledge of the diverse student population in the Faculty of Arts.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with various staff and faculty members in the Faculty of Arts, as well as Federated and Regional Colleges.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, video conferencing software, a student information system, as well as document management systems, and workflow technology.
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex data databases and other software systems.
  • Experience in the development of operational plans and a strong interest in developing a long term strategy and goals for the retention of students in the Faculty of Arts.
  • Ability to define, analyze, evaluate, and interpret information.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to multitask in a fastpaced environment while providing attention to a high level of accuracy and detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to customer service, with the ability to develop collaborative relationships.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Infrequent evening and/or weekend work may be required for special activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
Physical Demands Pay Grade APT 4 Salary Range $2,909 - $84,893 Annually Status Term Work Hours

Monday to Friday - 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with infrequent evenings and/or weekends for special activities/events.
