Position Overview:


  • As the Supervisor, Fleet you will be responsible for organizing and directing the daily activities related to the servicing, maintenance and repair of vehicles, light and heavy trucks and other mechanical equipment. You will also supervise, coordinate and schedule staff to meet Corporate Fleet needs.

Responsibilities:


  • Supervise a team of technical staff including but not limited to, Licensed Technicians and Automotive Service Attendants.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair performed by Fleet staff of vehicles and equipment through the work order system (FLINT).
  • Ensure adherence with the City's preventative maintenance program as well as MTO inspections and brake inspections requirements.
  • Ensure adequate equipment and material levels are maintained to meet maintenance and repair needs. Authorize all material purchases for the shift.
  • Liaise with City staff, user groups and suppliers.
  • Ensure operations comply with the requirements of occupational health and safety and environmental law; as well as the requirements under the ISO 14001 management system.
  • Process warranty claims through dealer and follow up as required.
  • Participate in various committees as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Must be reliable with good attitude and employment record.

  • Must have a minimum 2year diploma or 2 years in a specialized postsecondary program in a related field.
  • Must hold a valid Certificate of Qualification from the Ontario Ministry of College and Universities as a Truck and Coach Technician and Automotive Service Technician.
  • Must possess a valid MTO "G" class driver's license in good standing with the ability to obtain a "DZ" driver's license within 6 months of hire.
  • Must have proven leadership skills and be committed to working within a cooperative team environment.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to direct the work of others.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and human relations skills to deal effectively with union and nonunion staff and customers both verbally and in writing.
  • Must have experience in commercial fleet preventative maintenance programs on light to heavy trucks, sweepers, loaders and road repair equipment.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act and Regulations, WHMIS, Highway Traffic Act of Ontario and the National Safety Code.
  • Must be familiar with Periodic Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspections (PMCVI) and Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration (CVOR).
  • Must have proven experience delivering training and have the ability to adapt to evolving training requirements.
  • Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have a sound understanding of budgets, work order costing and estimate preparation.
  • Must be able to manage large volumes of information in a fastpaced environment.
  • Preference may be given to applicants possessing experience working with a computerized Fleet management program.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with supervisory experience.
