Ostrom Climate is a global leader in the design, development, and implementation of GHG reduction programs at all scales.

We have developed some of the world's largest carbon projects including the Great Bear Forest Carbon Project, which is North America's largest Improved Forest Management project and the world's largest forest carbon project by area, as well as the Mai Ndombe REDD+ Avoided Deforestation project, the largest of its kind in Africa.

Our Domestic Land Use Team focuses on improved forest and grasslands management projects in various jurisdictions across Canada as well as researching blue carbon potential in BC.


We work with Indigenous governments and communities, private landowners as well as government agencies and civil society to develop nature-based carbon offset projects.


Role Description


As part of the Domestic Land Use Team, the Carbon Project Manager will play a key role in the management of current and developing carbon projects, support ongoing audits, manage methodology development, and support the development of nature-based carbon offset projects.

This role requires a strong understanding of issues around the science of climate change, as well as land use and natural resource management dynamics in North America.

The Carbon Project Manager may also be responsible for administrative and other support tasks, such as business development and proposal writing.

This is a full-time position, reporting to the Director of Domestic Land Use.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage inventory and sales associated with existing carbon projects.
  • Support the development of methodologies and coordinate with external teams/contractors.
  • Support design and development of voluntary and compliance market carbon offset projects in North America.
  • Assessing the feasibility of prospective naturebased carbon projects through deskbased and field research and preparing feasibility assessment reports.
  • Assisting the technical team with geospatial and carbon quantification tasks on an asneeded basis.
  • Prepare research and project design reports and presentations.
  • Provide support in provincial and federal policy and regulatory reviews as needed.
  • Develop proposals for funding and consulting work for the Domestic Land Use Team.
  • Manage and lead audits for forest carbon projects.
  • Assisting the Director with budgeting and financial modelling on an asneeded basis.
  • Contributing to quality assurance/quality control through document review.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental science, forestry, agronomy, political science, or related field.
  • Solid understanding of forestry, agriculture, soil science, and land use dynamics in Canada
  • Good understanding of international and Canadian carbon markets, legislation and policies related to carbon offset projects.
  • Written and spoken fluency in English.
  • 5+ years of relevant professional work experience
  • 5+ years of project management experience
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with MS Office Suite

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with carbon markets, carbon project development, and naturebased carbon offset methodologies/protocols.
  • Field experience with forestry, agronomy, or silviculture.
  • Experience working with inventory design and field plot establishment.
  • Experience with FSI or SFI certifications and forest audits
  • Good command of evolving climate policy (Paris Implementation, OBPS, ICVCM, CCP etc.) and regulatory landscape

Skills

  • Strong writing skills
  • Demonstrates good business principles and possesses strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to work across teams, manage deliverables.
  • Clear communication written and verbal.
  • The ability to work with minimum supervision and to make decisions that ensure the success of the deliverable.
