    Are you passionate about wild plants, sustainable foraging, and subarctic agriculture? Do you love working outdoors and with nature? Laughing Lichen is seeking a motivated, and hardworking recruit to join our team. An ideal candidate must be comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather and terrain where biting insects and wildlife will be encountered. This position will also include office and computer work. A valid drivers license, and personal transportation is a requirement for this position.     Responsibilities

  • Typing reports, and other documents, assisting with organizing of events and workshops.
  • Assisting senior research staff with transcription and ethnobotany research.
  • Harvesting outdoors and processing wild herbs, berries, fungi, and lichens.
  • Manufacture and package herbal products such as oils, salves, soap, herbs, and tea.
  • Assisting with daily operations of on-site staff, volunteers, and students
  • Cleaning of Manufacturing facilities, herb drying barn and Manufacturing equipment
  • Assisting with various administrative tasks
  • Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Excel and other MS-Office software including word, and PowerPoint,
  • Experience or a string interest to learn about wild plant identification, and herbal applications
  • Comfortable working outdoors in environments where biting insects and wildlife may be encountered,
  • Educational qualifications typically acquired through the completion of a post-secondary degree in science, or the humanities or equivalent experience,
  • The ability to work with the public and co-workers in a respectful and professional manner,
  • Proficiency in English both orally and in writing,
  • Comfortable working both as a team member and independently,
  • Capable of multi-tasking, planning several activities simultaneously,
  • Ability to lift-up to 40 lbs, carry backpacks, and hike up to 4 kilometers per/day,
  • Employee will be responsible for providing their own outdoor clothing suitable for all weather conditions such as warm winter boots, proper hiking boots, and raingear etc.,
  • Driver's license/Personal transportation is a requirement for this position ,
  • Applicant must have the ability to commute to business location daily, located 30kms from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories,
  • A Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search will be a condition of Offer of employment,
  • Valid Food Safe training/Food safe certificate level 1

  • Strong strategic thinking skills
  • First Aid/CPR/wilderness First Aid
  • The ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, make decisions, exercise initiative and judgement, and prioritize assignments,
  • Website, marketing, and design experience
  • Experience writing grant and funding proposals,
  • Knowledge and identification of native plant, fungi, and lichens
  • Knowledge or experience with market gardening, and food security projects,
  • Educational/professional background in retail, business, marketing, biology, ecology, botany, and ethnobotany.
