Tasks:


  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical distribution and transmission systems
  • Erect and maintain steel, wood or concrete poles, towers and guy wires
  • Splice, solder and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution and transmission networks
  • Inspect and test overhead and underground power lines and cables and auxiliary equipment
  • Instruct apprentices
  • Install and maintain street lighting systems
  • Read and interpret blueprints
  • Ensure health and safety regulations are followed
  • Climb ladders or operate hydraulic buckets
  • Communicate with other workers to coordinate the preparation and completion of work assignments
  • Work in confined spaces to install power lines and cables and associated equipment

Supervision:


  • 1 to 2 people

Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses:


  • Powerline Technician Trade Certification
  • Powerline Technician Red Seal Certificate

  • Hydraulic or telescoping boom
