Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Community Development & Recreation, the Assistant Supervisor, Recreation Services, is responsible for the master scheduling of arenas, marinas, and sports fields and provides support to scheduling of other city owned amenities and facilities.

This position is the point of contact and liaison for sports events being organized by leagues, clubs, Tourism Kingston, and other volunteer groups.

The Assistant Supervisor provides support and recommendations to the Supervisor on administrative and customer services improvements and assists in supervision of staff.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Assist with the supervision of part time, full time, and student employees; provide training, on-call support and develop staffing schedules.


Assist with financial management, assets/facilities, and capital projects; provide input into the annual operational and capital budgets; provide input into detailed business plans for the development and construction of recreational facilities and amenities; provide assistance in overseeing the collection and tracking of all fees associated with facilities bookings, prepare usage and financial reports.


Promote and represent the City for arenas, marinas, and sports fields; responsible for all bookings, prepare master arena master schedules; liaise with, organize and facilitate meetings with user groups; distribute information on bookings and events; prepare weekly, monthly and yearly reports; address customer and user group issues; participate in projects either as a project leader or as a representative of the department; support the management team with marketing/promotional opportunities for city owned facilities.


Act as liaison for sports related events and tournaments; meet with representatives from Tourism Kingston and other organizations; identify potential partnerships; develop and formulate proposals for sports events in collaboration with Tourism Kingston; coordinate logistics; liaise with other City staff and to prepare business plans.

Act as liaison for marina related matters with, Canadian Coast Guard, Canadian Border Services Agency and OPP Marine units.

Provide direction and information to Customer Experience division on all aspects of Recreation and Leisure Services provision.


Perform work in accordance with the provisions on the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.

Perform other duties consistent with the duties outlined above.
Qualifications, Competencies
2 year post-secondary in business administration, recreation studies or equivalent.


Two (2) years' experience working in an administration and recreation environment, predominately in software programs; including experience with scheduling and liaising with community groups, facilitating user group meetings and with sporting events.

Ability to work flexible hours and attend meetings/sporting events outside regular business hours.

VHF - Maritime Communication Systems Certification an asset.

Marine fuel handling procedure an asset.

Bilingualism an asset.

Valid class "G" Ontario driver's license, and access to vehicle.

Required to obtain and maintain satisfactory criminal record check.
