Purpose
This position is a fixed term 9 months contract, responsible for preparing and processing of accurate payroll for all salary, hourly, permanent, and seasonal team members in multiple countries (Canada, US, Australia, UK, China) within established deadlines, following Federal requirements and Rocky Mountaineer policies.
The Payroll Coordinator ensures team members are consistently paid accurately and on time, setting up processes and creating efficiencies through audit, technology, and communication.
This role is also responsible for providing regular accurate reporting and tracking, responding to queries with outstanding customer service.Key Areas of Accountability
Full Cycle Payroll
- Timely preparation and processing of biweekly payroll, including tracking and administering employee changes (i.e. salary, promotion, departure, benefit deduction changes) in accordance with the payroll schedules, government regulations, policies and procedures
- Prepare ROEs, reports and administer related remittances related to payroll, benefits, garnishments, and accruals in accordance with legislative requirements
- Ensure salaries and employee benefit deductions are charged to the appropriate assigned budget/account codes
- Ensure time sheets, forms and reports are accurate and complete. Provide support to departmental timekeepers as required
- Respond to payroll queries from team members and external parties
- Ensure monthly payroll transactions are accurately reflected in appropriate balance sheet general ledger accounts
- Supports the yearend audit process, which includes liaising with external auditors
- Continuously contribute and maintain payroll workflows efficiencies and SOPs
Qualifications
Education, Certification, Licenses
- Working on achieving your PCP designation preferred
- General understanding of Total Rewards and HR
Experience
- 2 years' experience in handling full payroll cycle in a midsize organization (approximately 200 employees) is an asset
- Experience with payroll systems and HRIS required, experience with UKG Pro is an asset.
- Experience in benefit administration and reconciliation is an asset
- Journal Entries and Account Reconciliation experience is an asset
Skills
- Demonstrate knowledge of payroll legislation and employment laws
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, vlookup, and basic formulas)
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Good organizational and time management skills
