    Stormwater Technologist

    Reporting to the Manager of Development Engineering, the Stormwater Technologist is responsible for inspection, performance assessment, data analysis, data management, project management, compliance, budgeting, procurement stakeholder coordination, and overall team collaboration for the Town's Storwmater Management program. The Stormwater Technologist will play a crucial role in providing vital support to construction site inspection for capital projects and occasionally operational projects. This position involves a wide array of supportive tasks, including inspections, design, administrative as well as maintenance and improvement construction activities.

    Key Duties

  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with approved drawings, standards, specifications and Occupational Health & Safety Standards and Ontario Building Code.
  • Identify and resolve potential issues at construction sites.
  • Inspect sediment and erosion control measures prior to construction and regularly during construction after rain events to ensure that function and maintenance of the erosion control works are in conformance with the Town's Design Criteria, the Town's Sediment and Erosion By-law, TRCA/CLOCA permit requirements, provincial, federal regulations.
  • Conduct inspections for deficiencies at time of substantial completion and follow up with contractors to ensure deficiencies are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Conduct final inspections for release of holdbacks for capital projects.
  • Contribute to budget forecasting for capital projects and facilitate procurement processes by coordinating Requests for Proposals (RFP), Requests for Tender/Quote (RFT/Q), Request for Pre-qualification (RPQ), and others from contractors and consultants.
  • Provide technical support to the Water Resource Engineer, Site Plan Coordinator and Development Engineering Coordinator by reviewing and recommending approval for engineering design, engineering drawings and Stormwater Management Reports.
  • Review, process and respond to grading, fencing, drainage, driveway complaints and enquiries through site inspections.
  • Lead and coordinate construction and preconstruction meetings with contractors, developers and consultants.
  • Qualifications/Skills

  • Completion of a three-year community college diploma or a four-year university degree in fields such as Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Construction Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or relevant technical courses. Equivalent training paired with practical experience will also be considered.
  • Membership with Ontario Certified Engineering Technician and Technologist (OACETT) as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or affiliation with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or eligibility to acquire these designations within one to two years.
  • Proven knowledge of Town's Design Criteria and Standard Drawings, regional and provincial design criteria and standard drawings, Ontario Building Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, Municipal Act, Conservation Act, and good engineering practices.
  • Experience in Stormwater Management, Municipal Engineering and AutoCAD.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in Engineering Design/Review and Site Inspections.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in customer service.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the review of engineering reports.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft 365 (Teams, Word, Excel and Power Point), Outlook, AutoCAD and AMANDA.
  • Valid Ontario Class 'G' driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.

  • Rate of Pay: $ $42.09 per hour.
  • Hours of Work: This is a unionized position that works 35 hours per week. The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement.
