Description
Job Objectives:
The Assistant Vice President will be responsible for the adjustment of Canadian Commercial Property and Energy claims and provide oversight for the Canadian Third-Party Administrator, within a minimum authority level, with specific responsibility of investigating, negotiating, monitoring, and settling claims.
Duties and Responsibilities:
***- Maintain computer claim files of Property/Energy claims
- Analyze claim notices for proper coding, coverage and potential exposure
- Prepare claim correspondence as necessary
- Investigate, followup, and otherwise monitor the development of claims
- Establish and authorize adequate reserves amounts based on exposure
- Negotiate settlements and or costsharing agreements within specified authority
- Set up and authorize claim settlements within specified authority
- Authorize ALAE and Legal payments within specified authority
- Engages and manages consultants as required to assist in determining facts, causation, damages, and exposure monitors the costs to ensure they are reasonable and necessary.
- Liaise with underwriters, actuaries, legal counsel and outside vendors
- Prepare claim reports as required
- Coordinate initial investigation for subrogation potential on losses
- Prepare and present case evaluations to supervisor for underwriting/management
- Coordinate strategies for resolving coverage disputes
- Assist in projects and reports as required
- Provide claim oversight and authority to the Canadian TPA
- Perform Claim/TPA audits annually
- Assist with analyzing company exposure following a Catastrophe
- Meet with existing or prospective clients and brokers
- Train and mentor junior staff
- Provide Underwriters with technical support
- Travel as required for depositions, client meetings, company events, and/or market meetings
Qualifications
Requirements:
- A minimum of 15 years experience handling Property/Energy insurance claims or related relevant experience in the Canadian Market
- Some prior field experience is preferred
- Fouryear college degree preferred
- Technical knowledge of handling underlying complex Property/Energy claims
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- Technical writing experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products
- Ability to analyze coverage and instruct and collaborate with counsel regarding litigation strategy and claim resolution, and resolve claims and otherwise act within the scope of delegated authority
- Experience with Litigated Claim files
