What can I expect as a Business Analyst?


As a Business Analyst, you will provide knowledge and support in the areas of project management, business problem identification and analysis, business requirements research, and business process analysis which includes testing, training, and deployment planning.

In our world, no day is ever the same, but you can expect a typical day to include a combination of the following accountabilities:

  • Conducting business analysis tasks such as business requirements gathering and documentation, organizing and conducting user acceptance testing, workshop planning and facilitation, and project delivery.
  • Conducting project management tasks including scoping and planning, stakeholder communication and expectation management, organizational change management, managing risks/issues, and managing the solution deployment process.
  • Collaborating throughout the project's life cycle with the development team, quality assurance and infrastructure team and other business analyst team members
  • Conducting quality assurance activities such as regression and user acceptance testing to ensure the accuracy of business requirements.
  • Participating as a relationship manager to ensure effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conducting continuous research and ongoing learning to remain current with new technologies and best practices.

Education and experience will you need to be successful:

  • Degree, diploma, certification or equivalent in computer science or management information systems fields. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Understanding of project management methodologies
  • Basic understanding of software testing methodologies including quality assurance principles and testdriven development approach.
  • Basic understanding of software development lifecycle, change and release management principles and what is required to lead, design, and implement technical projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as creativity, critical thinking, and active listening skills
  • Ability to manager multiple tasks with changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to model operational business problems and solutions with strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Professional Project Management certification.
  • Prior Business Analysis courses or certification.
  • Understanding and knowledge of BCFMA operations and technologies.


Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position but at a lower classification.

If hired, the successful applicant would be under-implemented at a Band 1 classification (salary range $44,408 to $69,388 per year) with an employee development plan in place until the qualifications for Business Analyst are fully met.
