In accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement, this full time continuing position offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits and annual salary range of $66,167 - $110,279

Position


Reporting to the Senior Officer, Major Initiatives, the Major Initiatives Officer is a strategic implementation expert, tasked with supporting expansion of research capacity by implementing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating specific strategic institutional major initiatives, and the actions articulated in the University's forthcoming institutional Strategic Plan for Research and Innovation (SPRI).


This position demands in-depth knowledge of the broad research landscape; multidisciplinary research expertise; strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders; ability to work in a high-paced environment, with a passion for action, agility, and flexibility.

Key indicators of success are linked to expected outcomes outlined in the institutional Strategic Plan for Research and Innovation, increasing research partnerships and large-scale research grants, impact, academic reputation, and competitiveness.


Duties

Strategic Initiatives Support and Implementation

  • Supports the AVP (Strategic Research Initiatives and Performance) and the Senior Officer, Major Initiatives with implementation of the Institutional Strategic Plan for Research and Innovation through major institutional research initiatives.
  • Works closely with the Senior Officer, Major Initiatives to proactively implement and coordinate institutional strategies and major initiatives.
  • Collaborates with the Performance Assessment Officer to monitor, track, evaluate and report on progress, success and impact of specific major initiatives and strategic priorities aligned with the University's institutional Strategic Plan for Research and Innovation.
  • Monitors and manages risk as related to strategic major initiatives while supporting the development of mitigation strategies with the Senior Officer, Major Initiatives and implementing them.
  • Quickly analyzes research, data, reports, and research trends to provide recommendations and strategic support to leaders and researchers.
  • Ensures appropriate protocols are followed and ensures projects meet required outcomes in alignment with major institutional initiatives and the Institutional Strategic Plan for Research and Innovation.

Training Development and Support for Grant Applications

  • Works with other research administrators to help mobilize investigators for largescale, multiinvestigator funding proposals, including team grants.
  • Supports with strategic advice the development, organization, and delivery of resources, and training materials on major initiatives to support researcher leadership and participation in institutional strategic initiatives and funding proposals.
  • Facilitates workshops for research networks or hubs of researchers in specific priority areas across the university.

Project/Initiative Management

  • Ensures multiple projects affiliated with major initiatives are completed; develops schedules and timelines, establishes milestones and deliverables; maintains metric spreadsheets; participates in teleconferences and facetoface meetings to discuss plans, progress, and results.
  • Leads some meetings for largescale initiatives, reports on progress of the initiative, develops agenda and implements any action items arising from the meetings.
  • Initiates, maintains, tracks, communicates and manages an "issues and priorities" list.
  • Measures initiative performance and ensures projects meet required outcomes.
  • Creates summary reports on major initiatives.

Communication

  • Facilitates discussions and negotiations to foster successful implementation of portfolio initiatives.
  • In consultation with the International Research Officer, acts as a liaison, providing strategic advice, feedback, and recommendations to the institutes, centres, large research groups, and researchers ensuring institutional goals and strategic directions are communicated and supported.
