ROLE OVERVIEW
Are you passionate about ocean and climate education and how we can protect and restore our oceans?

We have a unique opportunity to join Ocean Wise's Youth team.

Reporting to the Director of Youth, the Manager of Mobile Programs oversees Mobile's National Sea Dome Tour and Discovery Kits.

The Manager is responsible for the program management, delivery and evaluation of Mobile Programs across North America.

Featuring our Sea Dome, the National Tour is delivered across Canada from May-September each summer. Outside of the summer months, the Sea Dome stays in the B.C. lower mainland to deliver programming within 100km of Vancouver. This position requires excellent organizational skills with exceptional logístical and risk management acumen.

The Manager will be based in Vancouver and be expected to join the Mobile team on the Sea Dome tour for up to 30 days (possibly two weeks at a time) on the road between May-August 2023, primarily in Manitoba and Ontario, and subsequent summer tours throughout Canada.

This position requires you to travel and work from provinces across the country approximately 15% of the time.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Manages Mobile Programs by designing and executing a comprehensive workplan with key milestones, objectives, responsibilities and deliverables.

  • Provide strategic guidance, pedagogical insights, and project management expertise to Mobile Programs' Sea Dome program and Discovery Kits.
  • Lead the budgetary forecasting and reporting, project management and evaluation aspects of the program.
  • Cultivate a culture of collaboration, creativity and analysisbased, resultsdriven work throughout the Mobile Programs' team.
  • Ensure programs are adequately funded by collaborating with the Director and Ocean Wise's Development team to prepare proposals, pursue sponsorship and other funding sources, and oversee timely reporting requirements to funders.
  • Identify and propose novel partnerships that expand Mobile Programs' reach into the United States, either through an additional Sea Dome or Discovery Kits.
  • Collaborate closely with Ocean Wise's Youth team and Ocean Wise's other conservation initiatives to increase the collective impact of our work.
  • Implement a comprehensive Risk Management plan with support from the Director and Assistant Manager, Mobile Programs.
  • Establish performance objectives/goals, review quarterly results, and complete formal performance reviews for direct reports as required.
  • Develop new national and international partnerships with school districts, youth serving organizations, Indigenous communities and civic institutions to grow the program's reach, lead conversations in the community of practice, and create other opportunities for Ocean Wise.
  • Build new relationships with Indigenous communities and Indigenousled organizations to reach more Indigenous youth and integrate Traditional Ecological Knowledge into the Youth Initiative.
  • Lead the monitoring and evaluation of key program targets to assess the program's progress towards the 2023 goals and 2030 ambition.

Supports plans and objectives for the department by:

  • Work with the team to plan and track year-long regional tour delivery, grant deliverables, fiscal targets, vehicle and systems maintenance and project timelines in accordance with organizational policy and standards;
  • Ensure staffing levels across the department(s) are at optimum levels to support effective and efficient service delivery;
  • Coach and develop Direct Reports to advance their professional development and ability to help the program succeed;
  • Review and approve time and attendance for direct reports prior to established deadlines;
  • Participate in the development of the annual budget and managing department expenses at or below budget.

Provides management, coaching and mentoring to Direct Reports and extended team members and contributes to and fosters the development of the team by:

  • Create an environment conducive to individual development, productivity, and achievement while ensuring open lines of communication;
  • Ensure that staff are well organized, sufficiently trained/crosstrained to perform their responsibilities, developed to their potential and deployed in a manner that permits a costeffective operation;
  • Recruiting, hiring and promoting team members in accordance with Ocean Wise policies.

Other Duties:


  • Continually improves our impact on the environment and greening of operations through support of EMS protocols;
  • Maintains organizational safety standards;
  • Other Duties as Required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Education, Communications or related field required;
  • Three to five years management/supervisory experience and proven strong leadership skills;
  • Experience in conservation education an asset;
  • Clean driving recor
