Mission Statement: The St Vincent de Paul Society of Kingston is mandated to provide practical assistance and support to individuals and families who access our services. All services are provided in a compassionate and respectful manner that reflects and reinforces the dignity and humanity of all persons.
All responsibilities carried out by the Head Cook shall demonstrate this philosophy and shall support and encourage a sense of community within our programs, ensuring that we provide a welcoming, safe, friendly place for program participants, guests and volunteers.
The Meal Program runs Monday to Friday and the Head Cook is required to be onsite from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm during each service day.
Tasks and Duties:
1. Directly supervise and participate in lunch program, including opening the Centre, food preparation, serving, clean-up, and closing the Centre.
2. In coordination with the Program Manager, plan nutritious and satisfying menus, ensuring that supplies are purchased in advance and are within budget.
3. Ensure that food is handled, prepared and stored according to Public Health specifications.
4. Ensure the basement storage area is organized, clean and neat.
5. Orient, train and supervise volunteers and their work.
7. Provide feedback and direction to volunteers and/or placement students.
8. Co-ordinate and consult with the volunteer coordinator regarding volunteer coverage.
9. Participate in the planning and execution of "special" days such as barbeques, holiday dinners etc.
13. Participate in the annual Volunteer Appreciation.
14. Track and report all program stats.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: $19.00-$20.00 per hour
