Pine River Institute is a live-in treatment center for youth 13 to 19 years of age struggling with substance abuse and addictive behaviours.

Our program includes; a therapeutic wilderness program phase near Algonquin Park, followed by a live-in phase at our campus located on a 200-acre site 100 kms northwest of Toronto.

Our program uses a progressive discharge approach that is complemented by an aftercare program.

The objective of Lang House is to prepare some of our students to transition more easily from the protected campus environment to life in the "real world" Our family-centered program is innovative and highly structured, and creates opportunities for adolescents to engage in a focused transformation process through a fusion of education, therapy, recreation, and life skills.

The majority of our students are from Ontario. We receive funding support from the Ministry of Health and academic support through the Ministry of Education.


Key Responsibilities _(include, but are not limited to):_

  • Ensure the highest level of standards are followed by acting as a leader and role model
  • Ensures development of structured, intentional and creative therapeutic programming.
  • Provides a clinical perspective to program activities and serves as a resource to YCs, regarding student management, as well as understanding student's mental health issues and special needs through daily intentional engagement in the home.
  • Working closely with the Off-Campus Program Director and Transition House Therapist in providing ongoing evaluation of home programming and routines, that include but are not limited to the organizing, facilitating or cofacilitating life skills learning (ie: cooking, care of home/rooms, time management, job search/resume development) in addition to education and workplace support )
  • Through observation and participation, responds to student and staff reports regarding problematic program areas.
  • Participates/observes areas of a program where students are having challenges, trouble shoots and actively assists with students
  • Overall responsibility for staff scheduling at Transition House. Manages time off, approves within QHR and reviews/submits timecards.
  • Works closely with HR to support and/ or execute the following activities; identification of staffing needs, interviewing, orientation and training, performance management.
  • Provides for safety and security of students residing at the house, and works with the Management team to develop applicable policies for same.
  • Works with Off-Campus Program Director and Transition House Therapist on behaviour crisis management, room/house management, including guidance of YCs, debriefing incidents and creating best practices. This will include coordinating any relevant trainings (ie, CPI, First aid) and staff certification.
  • Creating community partnerships to engage youth in the community and/or support them with continued therapeutic growth
  • Oversees medicine management
  • Manages day to day house budget and oversees house supply procurement
  • Coordinates/supports youth with organizing transportation, if necessary.
  • On call scheduled rotation and evening availability 1 day/week
  • Other responsibilities/duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Prior experience, 2+ years in a Supervisory/Management role
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to implement a program vision and execute on goals, provide sound judgment, leadership, integrity, patience, commitment and a sense of humour.
  • University education in relevant discipline or equivalent related experience
  • Experience with and training in child and youth care practices in a mental health or youth addiction program preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to be creative, flexible, selfmotivated and professional with a commitment to personal growth and development.
  • Familiarity with the Orillia community preferred
  • Experience in outreach services and building community connections considered an asset
  • Valid First Aid Certification and CPI certification
