    We are currently seeking a Software Engineer to join a new agile team that will develop, support, and analyze technical solutions within the Canadian IT Platforms and Engineering team. The successful candidate is a team player with excellent technical and problem-solving skills, is aware of industry trends, questions the status quo and can identify and propose alternatives.     What will you do?

  • Collaborate with skilled cross functional Agile team members to develop and deliver efficient, high-quality code
  • Take ownership for completing coding, testing, debugging and implementation activities.
  • Write both unit and integration tests, and develop automation tools
  • Provide input for the estimation, planning and management of development tasks and provide regular updates on progress against those tasks
  • Participate in agile ceremonies
  • What you need to succeed:

  • 4-6 years of application development and systems integration experience
  • Working experience with Java, Spring, APIs, middleware technologies, as well as web and web hosting technologies
  • Hands on experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Proficiency with Soap/XML, REST/JSON
  • Strong overall understanding of web applications and server technologies
  • Experience with SQL
  • Understanding of Javascript and JQuery
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/ DevOps processes and tools such as Jenkins, Artifactory, BitBucket, Gradle, Continuous Delivery Director, Ansible.
  • Assets:

  • Past experience working in the financial and insurance industries.
  • Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, light4j, Salesforce, Struts.
  • React and Web Accessibility experience is a bonus.
  • Experience with Jira and Confluence (nice to have)

  • Occasional travel between Sun Life locations (Toronto, Waterloo) may be required depending on work assignment
